PRIMARY BOOKMARK JUDGING
After being excellent ambassadors during the Year 5 Reading Workshop in April, we were proud to take Amelia, William, Spike, Lexi (all in Year 7) and Brooke (Year 9) to St Mary's Academy, to judge the Year 5 Bookmark Competition.
Our students had a difficult task on their hands, after Year 5 produced some beautiful and unique designs! Once careful judication had taken place, our pupils chose first, second and third places, before maturely presenting certificates and prizes to the worthy winners in their classroom.
Mrs Spencer-White and Mrs Dodds were delighted with the way our students conducted themselves so professionally and positively, whilst wholeheartedly promoting a love of reading.
The Year 5 winners were able to choose a book of their choice, based on the five titles our students had promoted during the Reading Workshop.
Lastly, as a huge thank you to Amelia, William, Spike, Lexi and Brooke, they were presented with a book voucher for Beaminster Books - their act of Service for Beaminster School has been truly inspiring! Our thanks also go to St Mary's for our visit today, and to Beaminster Books for their brilliant support.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD 70th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS, BUCKINGHAM PALACE
As part of the 70th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, volunteers who have enabled students to achieve this award were invited to attend the Gold Award Ceremony in Buckingham Palace gardens this week.
In recognition of her contribution to the Award, our Head of Humanities, Miss Patten, represented Beaminster School at the event, with an afternoon spent listening to inspirational talks and enjoying a cup of tea and a cupcake on the Palace lawns as the Duke of Edinburgh congratulated participants and volunteers.
Miss Patten was very honoured to be invited, and to see so many young people achieve, and we hope that many Beaminster School students will go on to do the same.

YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY TRIP TO BRISTOL
Our Year 10 GCSE Geography students enjoyed their first fieldwork day around Bristol Harbour to better understand the geographical concepts they have studied in the urban unit.
Despite the weather, they had a busy day collecting environmental quality surveys to investigate regeneration over recent years, a visit to The M Shed Museum, and a boat trip around the harbour!

PRIMARY READING WORKSHOP
We were delighted to welcome Year 5 students from Beaminster St Mary's Academy for our first Reading Workshop in the school Library.
Year 5 enjoyed a range of activities, including a Library hunt, listening to a Beaminster student read an exciting book extract aloud, a Book Chat, plus a small taster of a Year 7 lesson thanks to Mrs Dodds reading an extract from 'Private Peaceful'.
Huge thanks go to Year 7 student librarians Amelia, Spike, William, Lexi and Year 9, Brooke, who were fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Mrs Spencer-White said: “We were extremely proud of their mature and diligent efforts in enabling the Reading Workshop to happen, and more importantly, our students' love of reading was plain to see, we feel certain that Year 5 feel even more inspired to keep reading after today!”

MARTIAL ARTS DOUBLE CHAMPION
Huge congratulations to Year 7 student, Blaize, who is now a double champion having been crowned as both South Coast and South West Champion!
He came away with a Gold and Silver medal at the South Coast Championships in Southampton, and then another Gold at the South West Championships in Taunton.
At the South Coast Championships he was up against students from Sussex, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset and Devon. Despite competing in the Black Belt ranks for the first time, he came away with Gold for Martial Arts Handrills and a Silver for Kick Boxing.
At the South West Championships, against students from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, he came home with another Gold medal for his 10 Kick Combo.
The photo (with thanks to Dad) is Blaize with his medals and Matt Fiddes himself!
