Building a more resilient Beaminster!
Tonight saw the first meeting of Beaminster Town Council’s new Community Resilience Working Group.
The group appointed Cllr Andy Brown as Chair and Theo Langdon as Vice Chair, who will help lead the group as this important work moves forward.
The group has been brought together to look at how we can make Beaminster better prepared for emergencies and more resilient for the future.
One of our first priorities will be updating our Community Emergency Response Plan (CERP). This will look at how our community could respond to situations such as flooding, severe weather, power or water outages, communications failures and other significant disruption.
But we also want to look beyond the immediate emergency response. The group will consider some of the longer-term issues that could make our town more vulnerable and what we, as a community, can do to prepare, improve resilience and raise concerns with the organisations responsible.
A big part of this work will be identifying the people, skills, equipment, premises and local knowledge that already exist within our community – and bringing together residents, businesses, community organisations and other agencies.
This is very much the beginning of the process, and there is plenty of work ahead, but tonight was an important first step.
As the work develops, we’ll be asking the wider community to get involved and help us build a plan that works for Beaminster.
