What do children and families see, hear and experience in your setting that tells them "you belong here"? 💛

In our latest blog post, Simone Barnes, Setting Support Officer in South Gloucestershire and birth-to-threes network leader for the Stronger Practice Hub, explores how inclusion sits at the very heart of personal, social and emotional development.

Simone reflects on why belonging matters so deeply for young children, how representation shapes self-concept from the earliest years, and why inclusion isn't an add-on to good PSED but part of the foundation that allows it to flourish. She encourages practitioners and teams to look honestly at the messages their environments, resources and interactions send to children and families about who is valued.

This isn't about strategies alone. It starts with our willingness to reflect, stay open and challenge assumptions.

The post includes team reflection questions to get the conversation started in your setting, along with links to further resources including our Practice Bites on Celebrating Festivals and Books, Belonging and Representation.
