Too many appointment reminders? 🔔
We’ve listened and made it simpler.

From 1 June, we’re making a small change to appointment reminders sent through DrDoctor, our text message and email service.

You’ll now receive one reminder, 3 days before your appointment, instead of two reminders at 7 and 2 days.

We’ve made this update in response to feedback that people were receiving too many reminders 😊

There’s no change to booking confirmations or digital letters.

👉 If you can’t attend your appointment, please let us know as early as you can – this helps us offer the slot to another patient.

Did you know that you're three times more likely to quit to***co for good with the help of a stop smoking service? 🚭

However, often quitting isn’t just about willpower and focusing on giving up to***co. If someone’s experiencing other challenges – such as housing worries, poor mental health, or challenges with alcohol and drugs – then a stop smoking journey can be more difficult.

That’s why our Treating To***co Dependency team focuses on providing a holistic, judgement-free service for inpatients at the RUH.

They take the time to get to know each individual, finding out more about their health and wellbeing, what matters to them and what they might be struggling with. This helps them to create a personalised plan to help someone give up to***co for good.

This might include:
⭐️ Giving clear information about ni****ne and to***co use
⭐️ Sharing practical advice about quitting smoking
⭐️ Providing access to ni****ne replacement therapies, such as patches
⭐️ Working with community partners to support wider wellbeing
⭐️ Giving follow-up support to help people stay on track

This personalised approach helps people to stop smoking and improve their overall health and wellbeing – helping to reduce the risk of being readmitted to hospital.

This service is currently available to RUH inpatients – if you're interested, please speak to your care team during your hospital stay.

If you’re an outpatient or a member of our local community, you can access support via the Community Wellbeing Hub. Pop into our Atrium (10am – 3pm, Monday – Friday), or phone 0300 247 0050 / 0333 005 0095 (9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday).

If you’re pregnant, specialist support is available – please speak to your midwife for more information.

This World No To***co Day, if you’re thinking about quitting, reaching out for support could make all the difference.

If a friend or family member is getting ready to be discharged from hospital, there are simple, practical ways you can help get them back to the comfort of their own home as soon as possible. 🏠

✅ Ensure their home is comfortable and tidy ready for when they return. Remove trip hazards, clean any dirty dishes and throw away mouldy food.
✅ Pick up any prescriptions and make sure they have healthy food and drinks ready.
✅ Check they have essentials like keys and a working phone so they can get follow-up care or ask for help if needed.
✅ Arrange transport home from hospital and make sure they have weather-appropriate clothes and shoes for the journey.
✅ Know who to contact for help at home. In BANES this includes the Community Wellbeing Hub who can connect you with local organisations who can provide support.

We know people prefer the comfort of their own home, and recover faster there following a stay in hospital. Help us ensure a smooth and safe return home for our patients. 💙

Congratulations to our Maternity Vaccination team, who've been presented with our Working Together Award to recognise their impressive work in increasing vaccination uptake. 🙌

Their dedication has seen record numbers of pregnant women and birthing people choosing to have the flu, RSV and pertussis vaccines.

Their nomination praises the team for putting listening at the heart of what they do. They have used feedback from families and colleagues to design a successful process that makes it easier for people to get vaccinated and reduces anxiety.

This we'd like to thank the 280 walkers, including staff and patients, who took part in the RUHX Charity Walk of Life last weekend.

Together they have already raised almost £60,000! 😍

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Walk of Life, which has raised more than £900,000 for the RUH in that time. 👏
