🧠 𝗔𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Following on from the discussion we shared last month, the skills working group - brought together by Graeme Fox - held its kick-off meeting, and it was well attended, with strong input from employers and trainers across the sector.

NOCN and EAL are now mapping out a route towards an 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, recognising the skills people have built on the job alongside formal training.

The group is reconvening 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟱 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 to review the roadmap as it takes shape.

✔️ Employers and trainers driving the conversation together
✔️ A practical route to evidencing real-world competence
✔️ Awarding bodies mapping out what comes next

🧠 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Following the discussion sparked by Graeme Fox's recent article on the skills landscape across the RACHP sector, work is now underway to turn that conversation into action.

Graeme is coordinating with the Building Safety Regulator's office and the relevant awarding body to develop a clear pathway for evidencing experienced worker competence - recognising the skills engineers have built on the job, not just formal qualifications.

A working group kick-off is scheduled for 27th August to take this forward.
✔️ Recognising real-world experience alongside formal training
✔️ Creating a credible pathway to evidence competence
✔️ Working directly with regulators and awarding bodies to shape the outcome

This is about more than raising awareness - it's about building the framework the industry needs.
