READ: How we would unlock £50bn to defend our country without raising your taxes 👇

The defining security challenge of our time is how we confront the axis of authoritarian states seeking to undermine us. If we fail to respond robustly to aggression, we will face a bitter reckoning sooner or later.

The first duty of Government is the defence of the realm. But Keir Starmer seems to think that handing out more money to people who do not work is more important. In their Benefits Street Budget, Labour refused to stump up the cash that our brave Armed Forces deserve.

When Conservatives say we back our Armed Forces, we mean it.

That's why today Kemi Badenoch and James Cartlidge announced our fully funded plan for a £50bn Sovereign Defence Fund, to accelerate war readiness and send a powerful message to our adversaries.

This investment would enable the procurement of drones and new technologies at a far greater speed and scale. The Fund would mobilise billions in public and private funding to support our defence industrial base, including investing in British defence start-ups and strengthening our military supply chains.

As with all of our announcements, we have a plan to deliver them. Our Sovereign Defence Fund will repurpose existing funding to invest in this urgent national priority. That includes £6bn from the Government’s R&D budget, £11bn from the National Wealth Fund (which is mainly being used for Ed Miliband's costly Net Zero projects) and £33bn of private finance. We will transform the National Wealth Fund into the National Defence and Resilience Bank (NDRB) to deliver the defence investment needed.

We are acting because Labour is failing to confront the seriousness of the threats we face. They have refused to commit to raising defence spending to 3% of GDP on defence by the end of the Parliament. They axed £500 million of defence projects without any clear plan to replace them, leaving our Armed Forces without the equipment or capabilities they need to defend our country.

Conservatives back our Armed Forces, back British technology, and will secure a brighter future for Britain. 🇬🇧

🚗 Labour’s War on the Motorist – Coming Soon to a Street Near You?

The Sunday Telegraph reports that Sir Keir Starmer and his Labour colleagues are planning to limit the number of parking spaces in new housing developments by government diktat.

Let’s be clear what this means in the real world 👇
➡️ Fewer parking spaces
➡️ More cars dumped on streets
➡️ More congestion, neighbour disputes and safety issues

All this while Labour are forcing through massive new housing developments, often in places with little or no public transport. It’s ideology over reality.

And we don’t need to imagine the consequences here in Basingstoke — we’ve already lived them.

🅿️ Rooksdown is a cautionary tale
Under the old John Prescott Labour “urban village” experiment, parking standards were cut back. The result?

➡️ Four-bedroom homes with just one parking space

➡️ Residents still dealing with overspill parking years later

➡️ Streets clogged, pavements blocked, daily frustration for families and neighbours

Residents were promised a utopia. They got a parking nightmare.

Labour’s latest plan risks repeating exactly the same mistakes, this time on an even bigger scale — dictated from Whitehall, ignoring local knowledge and everyday reality.

🚫 No thank you. Not again.

Here in Basingstoke & Deane, Conservatives believe in:

✅ Sensible parking standards
✅ Development that reflects how people actually live
✅ Local decision-making, not top-down Labour dogma

Communities shouldn’t be punished for owning a car — especially when Labour has failed to provide the alternatives.

Once bitten. Never again.

❗️LOCAL ELECTIONS AT RISK AGAIN
Labour stopped people having their democratic vote this year by postponing local elections across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

❗️Today the Labour government said they will consider delaying elections in Hants & IOW again (in May 2026) because of their decision to scrap councils and bring in new “super councils”! These changes are referred to as LGR - local government reorganisation.

❗️2 weeks ago the Labour government announced a 2 year delay to the regional Mayoral election across Hants and IOW, due to be held in May 2026. No sensible reasons were given for the delay.

🚫I am against the delay to ALL elections. Elections must go ahead❗️
🚫We are heading down a slippery slope of dictation and control.
🚫If you agree, sign the petition below. We must ❗️✍🏽
