The future of Fanum House is set to be discussed by councillors next week. At a meeting next Tuesday (9 June), Cabinet will consider proposals to demolish the building which is in a poor condition and contains asbestos.

A range of options have been explored, including new office space and homes, but upgrading the early 1970s building to modern standards would need significant investment. If agreed, demolishing Fanum House would allow the site to be brought back into use as a priority site for a new investment partnership which is being progressed to fast track improvements in Basing View and the town centre.

Plans could include a mix of high-quality office space, educational facilities and new homes while looking at ways to reflect the history of the site.

We’ve been working with Basingstoke Town Football Club to help them secure a long-term home for the future.

Next week, Cabinet will consider plans that would give the club its own ground at Winklebury Football Complex, helping them grow, attract investment and expand opportunities on and off the pitch. This includes increasing matchday attendance and community events and expanding education and training opportunities, academy pathways and women’s and youth teams.

The proposals would also see Hampshire FA continue its important work to support grassroots and community football in the borough.

If you are spring cleaning and have large items to dispose of, there are a few options to consider.

Could your items be re-used?
💙If so, the Community Furniture Project Basingstoke or St. Michael's Hospice Furniture Store & Donation Centre - Basingstoke may collect your items in return for a donation to their charity.
📱 Alternatively, there are groups on social media sites where you can give away unwanted household items.

If they can’t be reused
📅 Book a trip to Hampshire County Council's Household Waste and Recycling Centre. If you are unable to transport the items yourself make sure you use a licensed waste carrier to take them for you.
🛻 Or consider booking one of our bulky waste collections - there is a fee payable for this service with concessions available for those on a low income.
