Rooksdown parish Council Residents Evening – Thursday 21st May, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, prior to the Annual Meeting.

The Parish Council is hosting a very relaxed and friendly residents’ evening at the Rooksdown Community Centre, and everyone is warmly invited to come along 😊

If you’d like to hear what the council has been actively working on over the past 12 months, plans for the next 12 months, meet council members, or find out whether becoming a parish councillor might be right for you, this is the perfect opportunity.

It’s an informal drop‑in style evening so join us for a catch up and refreshments 🍷🧀🫒

🌱 Make your garden wildlife-friendly this spring! 🐦🦔

With the first official day of spring coming up on Friday 20 March, residents across Basingstoke and Deane are being encouraged to make their gardens more welcoming for local wildlife.

You can book a FREE one-hour garden wildlife survey with the council’s Green Team. During the visit, eco experts will share practical tips on how to turn your outdoor space into a haven for nature, helping attract native species like hedgehogs, robins and other garden wildlife.

After the visit, you’ll receive a free report with personalised suggestions, which could include:

🌼 Planting to create habitats and food sources
💧 Adding water features such as fountains or small ponds
🌿 Simple changes to make your garden more wildlife-friendly

Since launching two years ago, more than 500 residents have already taken part, with many saying they’ve seen a real difference in their gardens.
Even small changes can make a big impact — supporting local wildlife while also helping tackle climate change by boosting your garden’s ability to store carbon.

🚲 Free Bike Marking – Keep Your Bike Safe! 🔐

Officers from the South/West Neighbourhoods Policing Team will be hosting a FREE bike marking event this weekend in Kempshott.

Bike marking is a quick and effective way to help protect your bike from theft and increases the chances of it being returned if it’s found.

🎨 Have Your Say on Basingstoke’s UK Town of Culture Bid! 🎭

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) are sharing an exciting opportunity for residents to help shape our borough’s bid to become the UK’s first ever Town of Culture.

The Government’s new UK Town of Culture competition will celebrate towns across the country for their cultural contributions, with winners in small, medium and large town categories, plus one overall UK Town of Culture. The overall winner will receive £3.5 million to deliver a year-long cultural programme in 2028, showcasing what makes their town unique.

To help shape the bid, BDBC is hosting a creative pop-up event in Basingstoke town centre:
📍 Former WH Smith unit, The Malls Shopping Centre
📅 Saturday 28 February
⏰ 9.30am – 5pm

Through a range of fun and interactive activities, residents and visitors will be invited to share:
✨ Why Basingstoke and Deane should be crowned UK Town of Culture
✨ Ideas for what a year-long programme of arts and creativity could look like
