🚛 Have you ever wondered what happens to your rubbish once it’s been collected by the bin lorry?

In our area, the contents of our black bins are taken to the Chineham Energy Recovery Facility, where waste is converted into energy via incineration. ⚡ Green waste, food waste, and recycling are sent to separate specialist facilities for processing.

Veolia - UK runs “Wonder” Open Days, giving members of the public the opportunity to visit these facilities, look around, and learn more about how waste is managed and processed.

Upcoming Open Days
Chineham Energy Recovery Facility – 27 August 2026
To book a place, please call 0203 567 3855.

Little Bushy Warren Composting Facility – date to be confirmed
For more information, please call 0203 567 3068.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Many of us like to get out and about to enjoy the beautiful countryside we have around us. However, do keep an eye out for Ticks.

These tiny bugs can transmit bacteria such as Lyme Disease, when bitten. This is a debilitating and little-known about condition. However, it can be treated, if caught early.

They are typically found in woodland, grassland, moorland or heathland but are also found in urban parks and gardens. When out, remember to keep to footpaths, avoiding long grass and check yourself and others with you (and your dog, if on a dog walk) for ticks at the end of your walk.

Lyme Disease UK are running a photography competition that closes on the 15th of May. Simply take a photo of your pet dressed in green and then email it to [email protected]. More information about the competition can be found on the Lyme Disease UK website https://lymediseaseuk.com/wear-lime-for-lyme-day-2026/

See nhs.uk and Lyme Disease UK for more information on signs, symptoms and treatments for Lyme disease.
