Congratulations to our newest member of the station Tom, who this week passed his Mod A course along with other recruits from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
They are now safe to ride a fire appliance to an incident and assist with the skills they have learnt over the last 8 days. Unlike our wholetime colleagues, an on-call firefighter’s training is spread over a larger period of time, and this must fit in around their full time work and personal commitments.
Once all modules are completed, they will be competent firefighters.
On-call firefighters cover a large percentage of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and indeed the country and work alongside their wholetime colleagues on a regular basis. The dedication each one of them shows to their communities is second to none.
