Recently we hosted Barry’s first ever street art festival, organised by Hurts So Good and Mack Events and funded through the Barry Neighbourhoods Board as part of the UK Government's Pride in Place programme.

Over the weekend, we saw local artists come together and create some amazing pieces. If you missed the festival, you’re in luck, as the artwork is being shown in an exhibition at the Former Wilko Unit!

This is a fab opportunity to see the art up close, refresh your memory or see it for the first time!

If you’ve been down to Barry Island recently, you might have spotted the wooden Barrybados artwork that’s been getting plenty of attention - and plenty of photos! 📸

Thank you to the mystery local maker behind it for giving us all a bit of extra fun at the end of summer 👏

We’ve had a heads-up that Barry Banksy will be taking the artwork down at the end of this week, so if you haven’t got your photo yet, now’s your chance!

From the beach huts and the climbing wall to the latest Barrybados creation, Barry Island continues to inspire memories old and new.

The Vale Business Development Grant Fund is now open to Expressions of Interest!

The Vale Business Development Grant Fund is now open to Expressions of Interest! It will close at 12.00pm on 7 September 2026.

The grant is funded through the Local Growth Fund and is designed to support SME businesses to grow, increase productivity, invest in innovation and access new markets.

The school gates are back open!

From first days to new year groups, today is a big day for families across Wales.

It can also be an expensive time of year for parents.

The School Essentials Grant offers eligible families up to £200 towards items such as school uniform, PE kit and other school essentials.

It's been a week since Barry's first ever Street Art Festival was held in Central Park, and what a day it was 🫟

Organised by local artists Hurts So Good, the free two-day festival brought together some of the UK's street artists for a vibrant programme of live artwork, graffiti battles, music, fashion and independent traders 🎶

The festival was a project delivered and funded by the Barry Neighbourhoods Board through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund 🤸

It’s been fantastic to see all the artwork from the event and hear how all those who attended had a great time🙌

We’re delighted to say it was a success and brought colour, creativity and culture to Barry 🎨

⚠ Residents are being warned following an increase in reports of two males going door-to-door offering to clean gutters, in the Barry area.

They are reportedly stating they are “doing everyone’s gutters in the street” and charging £65. In some cases, no work has been carried out despite payment being taken. There are also reports of the males requesting residents’ bank cards.

🛑 Prevention advice:
· Don’t feel pressured into agreeing to work or making an immediate payment.
· Use a trusted trader and get quotes before agreeing to any work.
· Don’t allow unexpected callers into your home.
· Never hand over your bank card, PIN or banking details to unexpected callers.
· If possible, note descriptions, vehicles and registration numbers and retain any CCTV footage.

If you have concerns about a caller, keep them out and contact a trusted person for advice.

If you believe you have been a victim of rogue trading, report it to Trading Standards and/or the police. In an emergency or if you feel threatened, call 999.
