If you have an allotment at the Jeff Fullard site then there is a public consultation in progress regarding development of land to the south, beyond the road at the far end of JF allotments (see image - development in red, JF in yellow) There is a consultation website at
https://ramsdendockconsultation.co.uk/
with a survey link at the bottom of the page for anyone who'd like to comment. This is also relevant to anyone with a plot at the private allotments to the west of the development.

** UPDATE - All done. Thank you, Paul for your prompt and excellent work! **

* UPDATE - a temporary cover has been kindly put in place by Paul Farish until he is able to make a permanent fix. So access can be resumed. *

The bridge at Longmeadow has a broken timber. Please avoid taking vehicles across until it's fixed so that the adjacent timbers aren't damaged. I am acquiring quotes for repairs.
Does anyone down there has a cone or similar while I get something sorted?

A key was found today at the No12 Smallholdings (Flass Lane site). Call or email the allotments officer to arrange drop off/ pick up.

Getting Started: New tenancy allocations are now in progress. If you see a prospective tenant touring your site, do tell them how fantastic that overgrown vacant plot used to be. Even more important - point out the plots that were grass/bramble infested a year or two ago and are now productive plots!

I have been looking up online resources about getting an overgrown plot started. There are many! My favourite for starters is this one from Garden Organic. I like it because it suggests using both the no-dig method, and traditional bed digging. Try both, see what works for you. And whichever method you choose, get compost or manure spread to improve the water infiltration and water holding capacity of your soil.

Getting the keys to your first allotment can be both exciting and daunting. But nothing beats having a small plot of land to call your own. And having the ability to grow organic fruit, veg and flowers.

There is lots going on behind the scenes here and I am steadily compiling a list of vacant plots. I am as eager as everyone else that as many plots as possible are assigned in time to give new tenants opportunity to prepare for the 2024 growing season.

If you are on the waiting list and applied mid 2019 or earlier, please would you email your name, address and phone number to me. This will help to speed up communications once I'm ready to assign plots to new tenants.

Please also indicate if you must receive the plot in near-to-workable condition. Note that this will NOT change which plot is assigned to you - however, it will mean that you will have to wait for Barrow TC to appoint contractors to carry out work, and this may take months.

A rent free period will be given depending on the state of the plot, and we will try to give as much support to our new tenants while they get their plot under control.

Thank you for all your facebook likes and follows. It’s good to see so many familiar names and faces! I’m looking forward to getting to know as many of Barrow’s 600+ allotment tenants as soon as possible. I have visited all bar two of the fourteen Barrow allotment sites (sixteen if you count the Walney sites as three) so far and it has been a pleasure to talk with those I've met. If you have a plot at No.5 or No.12 Smallholdings, I may well see you there tomorrow.
