A ‘Blue FALL’ story?

A tree that Tory controlled Devon County Council assured local residents was safe after it was illegally trimmed by developers collapsed catastrophically across the busy arterial road during last night‘s winter storm between Bickington and Fremington.

Lib Dem councillors Helen Walker and Joy Cann said, “Thank goodness no one was injured - it could’ve been catastrophic. The tree’s fallen right across the main pavement and thoroughfare. We reported it to Devon County Council months ago. In spite of their assurances, it is clear no effective action was taken to prevent this potentially dangerous incident.”

The local Residents Against Pollution (RAP) group would welcome new members. The group mainly undertake litter picks either individually or on occasions as a group. The main areas where these litter picks take place are Roundswell, bickington and Sticklepath.

The Tawstock and Roundswell (RAP) groups are doing a great job litter picking in the Roundswell District Ward. If you would like to join us please use the contact numbers.

Your district councillors, David Knight and Graham Lofthouse are researching into the capacity of the local sewerage system and flooding of parts of our ward.

Tomorrow the fruit tree whips will be planted along the cycle/pathway between Roundswell and lydicleave. These will create a community orchard, which, when mature will provide fruit for those who wish to pick it.
The orchard is sponsored by Devon County Council in association with the North Devon Biosphere.
In the autumn the district council will be preparing the ground for seeding a wild flower meadow around the orchard.
The successful bid for sponsorship was won by Chris Lofthouse who will be overseeing and helping with the planting. Chris is very keen on re-wilding both public and areas within private gardens.
