COURT: Man charged following fi****ms discharge in Barnsley

Following a fi****ms discharge on Smithies Lane over the weekend, a man has been charged and appeared in court.

Elijah Boswell, 39, of Smithies Lane, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

On Saturday 29 August, officers were deployed to Smithies Lane following 999 calls that a firearm had been discharged.

Boswell appeared before Barnsley Magistrates’ Court today (1 September) and has been remanded in custody ahead of another hearing at Sheffield Crown Court tomorrow (2 September).

🤖 The robots are here!

Robot deliveries are expanding across Old Town ward, with the whole ward now falling within the new delivery area.

Residents will be able to order from participating local businesses through Just Eat using Starship’s delivery robots.

We’re interested to hear what residents make of the expansion.

🚧 More Yorkshire Water disruption.

A burst pipe is restricting traffic along Gawber Road and around the traffic lights. Please avoid the area if you can.

⚠️ Gawber Road closure

Yorkshire Water has closed Gawber Road between Pogmoor Road and Jordan Hill due to a burst water main.

Please allow extra time for your journey and use an alternative route where possible.

🚮 Hospital bin update

A small win - but one that really shouldn’t have needed chasing.

After residents raised concerns with us about the overflowing bin outside Barnsley Hospital, we followed it up with both the hospital and council.

The bin has now been removed. There are two council-maintained litter bins nearby, as well as recycling bins at the hospital entrance.

We’re pleased we’ve got a sensible outcome. Thanks to everyone who raised it with us - we’ll keep an eye on the nearby bins to make sure they’re coping with demand.
