🚨 Three further arrests following violence at Barnsley Interchange

Three more people aged 30, 15 and 15, have been arrested in connection with an incident of violent disorder at Barnsley Interchange.

The arrests form part of our ongoing investigation into the disorder, and enquiries are continuing. As we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our town centre.

Anyone with information, CCTV or mobile phone footage that could assist our investigation is asked to come forward quoting incident 763 of the 29th of august 2026

🚨 Two arrested following violent disorder at Barnsley Interchange

Officers have arrested two males, aged 15 and 12, following reports of violent disorder at Barnsley Interchange.

The incident was dealt with by officers, and both males have been bailed from custody while enquiries continue.

We have identified more offenders who will be arrested in due course.

Violence and disorder have no place in our communities. We’re continuing to investigate the circumstances and are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened or has relevant information to come forward.

Today’s episode of You, Me & the Insurance Database ended with one motorcycle being seized after the rider was found to have no insurance and the incorrect license for this size of bike

The bike has now got a temporary new home with us — and the rider has got a very expensive reminder that “I thought I was covered” isn’t actually an insurance policy. 😂

If you’re riding, check your insurance before you twist the throttle. Otherwise, you might find yourself walking home. 🚶‍♂️

🏍️💨 **Two bikes have officially been told: “That’s enough now.”**

Our officers have seized two nuisance motorcycles under **Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002** following reports of anti-social riding.

The bikes may have thought they were starring in *Fast & Furious: Local Edition*… unfortunately, the sequel has been cancelled. 🚔

If your riding is causing alarm, distress or annoyance to the community, you can expect us to take action.

Ride responsibly. Save the revving for the racetrack — not the neighbourhood. 👮‍♂️🏍️

Sergeant Carnell says “We know that the vast majority of motorcyclists ride responsibly and considerately. However, a small minority continue to use their bikes in a way that causes significant nuisance and disruption to our communities. We will continue to listen to residents, target those responsible and use the powers available to us to take action where necessary. Our message is simple: enjoy your bike, but don’t make it everyone else’s problem.”

Yesterday our officers took part in Barnsley's Operation Hawthorne, aimed at enhanced engagement with rural communities 🚜

We visited a number of farms, residential properties and businesses, along with colleagues from our Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team and Barnsley Council Wardens, taking the opportunity to discuss issues within those communities and offer crime prevention advice.

We also carried out a waste carrier operation along with BMBC Wardens, checking that waste carrier vehicles on the roads held the necessary licence.

We were also joined by colleagues from our Road Policing Group, who issued 6 Traffic Offence Report (1 x mobile phone, 3 x no MOT, 1 x due care, 1 x no insurance), and from our Safer Camera Partnership who detected 13 speeding offences during the day.

Last but not least, our BMBC Warden colleagues also rescued 2 neglected puppies 🐶

All in all, it was a very successful day 🙂 👮🏽‍♂️

Officers from Barnsley Central NPT commenced their set of shifts on Friday 24th July and so far, they have had a busy set.

On 24th July a 49-year-old male was arrested for breaching his court bail, he was charged and remanded to the next available court.

On 25th July a 25-year-old male was arrested for three thefts from shop within the town centre. He was charged and bailed for all three offences.

On 26th July, a 51-year-old male was arrested for failing to appear at court and put before the next available court. Officers also located a 60-year-old male who was wanted for failing to appear at court on four occasions and put him before the next available court. Again, on this same day
Officers located a 35-year-old female who was wanted due to being recalled to prison, she was safely transported back.

On 27th July, a 29-year-old female was arrested for a domestic related assault and a criminal damage.

Yesterday on 28th July, Officers on targeted patrols observed a male they recognised to have been circulated as wanted for several high-risk domestic related offences. As such, they stopped to speak to this male, who initially provided false details. Once this male realised that the game was up, he attempted to resist the arrest. During this, he assaulted both Officers. He was successfully arrested and CPS have since authorised the following charges;
• Domestic related residential burglary
• Domestic related attempt S18 GBH
• Domestic related false imprisonment
• Domestic related criminal damage
• Domestic related non-fatal strangulation
• GBH S20 – this was against an Officer
• Non-fatal strangulation – this was against an Officer
The male will appear at Court tomorrow.

Officers do not come to work to be assaulted and should not be put in fear whilst doing their job. A mention must go to the several members of the public who assisted Officers whilst they executed this arrest, the two Officers were extremely grateful for this.

Despite the incident leaving Officers injured yesterday, they are back today and a 34-year-old female has been arrested for failing to appear at court, she will attend court tomorrow morning.

NEWS: Barnsley shoplifter jailed after breaching behaviour order

A Barnsley woman has been jailed for repeat shoplifting offences after she was caught breaching a criminal behaviour order (CBO).

Becky Parsons, 31, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 22 July to 13 counts of shoplifting and two counts of breaching a CBO.

The offences, committed between 29 June and 20 July, saw Parsons steal goods worth more than £1,700 from One Stop, Boots and Dunelm.

Parsons was caught on CCTV breaking a CBO made on 8 January 2025 by attending Boots at Cheapside on 29 June and 10 July 2026.

CCTV also showed Parsons committing a string of shoplifting offences, and officers arrested her on 20 July.

Parsons was sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment on 22 July, and ordered to pay compensation.

Sergeant Dave Carnell, from the Barnsley Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. Staff who just want to do their job should not have to be in fear of criminals persistently targeting their place of work."

“Parsons’ offending was targeted and repeated and she showed no regard for the order placed on her not to enter certain shops. The CBO helped ensure that Parsons was identified and arrested, and she can now look forward to time behind bars"

A 25-year-old man has been arrested today on suspicion of three counts of theft from local shops.

Operators in our CCTV control room spotted the suspect and kept eyes on him as he made his way through the town centre. They were able to guide officers directly to his location, leading to his swift arrest.

He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.

Retail crime isn’t victimless—it directly impacts our local businesses and workers. We’ll continue working closely with council partners and town centre teams to keep our high street safe.

It was a lovely touch to receive this 'well done' message from our Chief Constable today, for winning the Master Cutler Emergency Services Team Award along with SYP Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team

The prestigious award was in recognition of our joint work to tackle rural crime in Barnsley over the last 12 months 🙂

🚨 ARREST & CHARGE: Serial Town Centre Burglar Remanded 🚨

Good news for our town centre businesses! A 25-year-old male is in custody after being charged with a string of recent offences.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been investigating multiple commercial burglaries within the town centre. Our team conducted an extensive CCTV trawl, spotting a suspect walking the area with his hood up and a hat on to hide his face.

The breakthrough? 🕵️‍♂️
The suspect walked into a local casino and finally lowered his hood, revealing his identity. Thanks to our officers' sharp eyes and extensive knowledge of our local repeat offenders, he was immediately identified.

Early morning pursuit 🏃‍♂️💨
In the early hours of yesterday morning (17th July), the same male targeted another town centre business. He was quickly tracked via CCTV, and following a short pursuit, he was successfully detained by officers.

Following an interview, the male was charged with:
3x Burglary
1x Theft of a pedal cycle
1x Fraud

Court Update 🏛️
The male appeared in court this morning. Following this appearance, his trial has been adjourned, and he has been remanded in custody until his next court date.
