--------
This estate, managed in partnership with the National Trust, Barnsley Council and Northern College, provides a space to bring people together. But its history is rooted in a fierce family rivalry... Royal diplomat Thomas Wentworth was outraged when a cousin inherited his family home, Wentworth Woodhouse in 1695, and was

determined to outdo him, creating this place once known as ‘the finest garden in England’. Today it is South Yorkshire’s only Grade I registered landscape, with acres of parkland and gardens to explore. There are surprises along every avenue, including a castle that is not what it seems.

🌳Step into history on a guided parkland walk.
Come and join us tomorrow (Friday 12 June) for our volunteer-led walk at 11am to hear the story of how Thomas and William Wentworth shaped this landscape.

We’ll wander through the parkland, taking in all of the iconic spots – from the Duke of Argyll monument and the Rotunda to the Queen Anne obelisk, and the Palladian bridge (and don’t forget to keep an eye out for wildlife too 👀).

📣Funky little flower alert 📣

Loving these funky little flowers on the thyme honey-myrtle (Melaleuca thymifolia) in the conservatory Australia bed. The stamens join lower down but are free at the tips causing the claw like 'funky' appearance!
