CHANGE OF DATE NOTIFICATION

The Stairfoot, Worsbrough and Kingstone PACT meeting has changed date.

The next PACT meeting will now take place on Thursday 8th October 2026 at 6pm. The address for the meeting is Kendray Police Station, Rae House, Cypress Road, Barnsley. There is free car parking across the road from the building.

We welcome residents of the 3 ward areas to meet your local neighbourhood team, hear about our recent work and discuss any concerns you may have.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Today PCSOs attended at Winscar Reservoir along side BMBC Neighbourhood Wardens and Yorkshire Water wardens to give information out around Fire and Water Safety.

Unfortunately due to current demand South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were unable to attend.

It is against the law to ride off-road bikes on public roads in the UK without valid insurance, a licence, road tax and a registration plate.

It is also illegal to ride off-road bikes in parks, fields and on pitches.

Before buying an off-road bike for your child, consider if they can ride it legally and safely. When modifications are made to make bikes hit higher speeds, the risk of a serious or fatal collision significantly increases.

A large part of Barnsley West is rural land and parks and the risk of wildfires in our area is a very real threat.

Yesterday the Government sent out a national alert advising people not to light anything which could cause a fire. There is a risk of fires spreading very rapidly due to the hot dry conditions Barnsley has experienced recently.

Our colleagues at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are working tirelessly to protect us, our homes, our farms and our public spaces. Please act sensibly.

Deliberately starting a fire is a criminal offence. Arson is the criminal act of intentionally and maliciously setting fire to property, buildings, vehicles or forests. Arson with intent to endanger life is the most serious category. Both can carry a sentence of life imprisonment.

If you suspect someone has started a fire deliberately you can report this to Firestoppers on 0800 169 5558.

RETAIL CRIME: Prolific Barnsley thief sent to prison after breaching the terms of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Terry Hodson was given a CBO after he was convicted of multiple thefts from a shop in Barnsley.

Having no regard for this order, Hodson, who also goes by the first name Terrence, breached this order on two separate occasions over a 24-hour period.

Hodson was quickly arrested by our officers and charged with breaching the CBO.

Hodson, aged 64, of Church View Road, Barnsley, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court yesterday (Thursday 13 August) and was given a 16-week prison sentence.

Police Community Support Officer Katherine McFadzean said "Retail crime not only hurts small businesses, but it can also have long term negative effects on local communities.

"CBOs are only served to persistent offenders, and Hodson's lack of regard for this order shows how blatant his offending was.

"We will not tolerate retail crime in our town centres and remain dedicated to tackling it head-on in order to keep the area safe for retail workers and shoppers."

The CBO for Hodson prevents him from entering any Tesco store or Co-op store in Barnsley as well as Greggs in Pen*stone and Lidl in Wakefield Road.

His CBO remains in place until 14 May 2029. To report a breach of his CBO, please contact us on the non-emergency 101 number or make a report via our website.

Off-road bikers won’t get a free ride this summer - together with your help, we will find them and stop them in their tracks before they ruin summer.

We’re asking you to back our efforts and ‘give us the bike, not the rider’.

Yesterday our officers took part in Barnsley's Operation Hawthorne, aimed at enhanced engagement with rural communities 🚜

We visited a number of farms, residential properties and businesses, along with colleagues from our Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team and Barnsley Council Wardens, taking the opportunity to discuss issues within those communities and offer crime prevention advice.

We also carried out a waste carrier operation along with BMBC Wardens, checking that waste carrier vehicles on the roads held the necessary licence.

We were also joined by colleagues from our Road Policing Group, who issued 6 Traffic Offence Report (1 x mobile phone, 3 x no MOT, 1 x due care, 1 x no insurance), and from our Safer Camera Partnership who detected 13 speeding offences during the day.

Last but not least, our BMBC Warden colleagues also rescued 2 neglected puppies 🐶

All in all, it was a very successful day 🙂 👮🏽‍♂️
