❌ Myth: You cannot foster if you have a mental health condition.

✅ Fact: Having a mental health condition does not automatically prevent you from becoming a foster carer.

Many people successfully foster while managing their mental health. During the assessment process, we look at each person's circumstances individually, including how a condition is managed and whether it affects their ability to provide consistent care and support for a child.

Children need safe, stable and understanding adults in their lives. Personal experience of overcoming challenges can sometimes bring valuable insight, empathy and resilience to the fostering role.

The most important thing is being open and honest throughout the assessment process so that we can understand your situation and identify any support that may be helpful.
