⚠️ Boardwalk project begins today 🌳

Work begins today to replace the boardwalk – with sections of the Kingfisher and Red Squirrel trails temporarily closed.

All other trails remain open, and a simple diversion will be in place. Please follow all signage and diversions for your safety.

Crathes welcomes over 100,000 countryside visitors every year, with an ever-growing number experiencing the beauty and wildlife of the estate. The replacement of an aging boardwalk will help ensure everyone can continue to enjoy this popular route for many years to come.

The timing of the works has been carefully planned to allow for dry conditions and in the best interests of wildlife such as Atlantic salmon and brown trout.

💗 This project was made possible through the generous support of the players of the Postcode Lottery, the Brown Forbes Memorial Fund, the Scottish Landfill Community Fund (Third Sector Hebrides) and the Margaret Elizabeth Cormack Charitable Trust 💗

💗 Caring for Crathes this summer ⚠️

We love Crathes and as part of our care for this special place, we’ll be carrying out essential conservation and improvements over the summer.

You’ll see:
🌳🚶🏻Replacement of the Coy Burn boardwalk from 15 June.
This will require the closure of trail sections and diversions on the Red Squirrel and Kingfisher Trails, including the area to the south of the Mill Pond.

🏰🟢 Conservation work on the castle from 22 June.
Scaffolding will be erected on the north and west facades, but the castle will remain open as always.

We’ll continue to share updates throughout the works and will announce further exciting improvements later in the year!

💗 We’re grateful for the support of all our visitors, staff, volunteers and supporters in helping our charity care for and share Scotland’s precious heritage.
