Local councils in our area are changing.

Right now, some council services in Oxfordshire are split across different councils, like roads and planning, which can make it harder to know who to contact.

Local government reorganisation is about making services work better together.

In 2028, the current councils in our area will be replaced with one, two or three new councils. Whichever option the government chooses for Oxfordshire in the coming weeks, residents will benefit from clearer access, more joined-up services and a simpler experience when contacting your local council.

Councils across Oxfordshire and West Berkshire are working together to prepare for changes to how local government is organised in the future.

The government is expected to announce its decision in July, following a consultation earlier this year on proposals for one, two or three new councils to replace the current councils in 2028.

While we donโ€™t yet know the outcome, councils are planning ahead so that:
โœ… Services continue without disruption.
โœ… Communities are supported through any changes.
โœ… Things become simpler for residents in the long term.

Whatever happens, the aim is to make services easier to access and reduce duplication so more money can be reinvested where it matters most. We will keep everyone updated as the process moves forward.

Yesterday a number of our Kidlington councillors, including leader of the council Cllr McLean, and executive members Cllr Smith and Cllr Middleton, visited the Kidlington waste site to receive updates on the removal operation.

They had the opportunity to meet with the Environment Agency and Acumen Waste Services to discuss the clean-up and were pleased to see the large amount of progress that has been made. The majority of the waste has now been removed and the team are on track to complete their work on schedule.

You can read more about the clean-up operation on the Environment Agency's website, link in the comments.

โ˜€๏ธ A new generation of plug-in solar panels will be available to buy in high street shops within months.

This could transform how people in Cherwell access clean energy - particularly renters and those living in flats.

The panels can be placed on a balcony, patio, or in a garden, and used directly through a standard mains socket.

Plug-in solar could help you reduce your energy bills, and also help the UK reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Illegal waste dumping is not a victimless crime. It leaves a mark on our public spaces, and we will always investigate evidence so we can hold the offenders to account.

Following the widely reported fly-tipping which took place at Burchester Place, Banbury in February, we have now caught an offender who dumped black bin bags of household waste and served her with a ยฃ500 fixed penalty notice (reduced to ยฃ250 as it was paid within 10 days).

Thank you to the witness who came forward to provide a statement in this case.
