So when will Labour refund Cherwell and OCC for the taxpayers’ money wasted?

Labour Government asked Oxfordshire’s councils to spend months and public money preparing for reorganisation now to only to U-turn.

Even Sean Woodcock MP says the time and resources have been “wasted”. The Times and Sunday Times

Wardington update – A361 and HS2

I wanted to update residents in Wardington on the work I’ve been doing around the A361 and the impact of HS2 traffic through the village.

At the end of July, I met with senior Oxfordshire County Council Highways officers, HS2 representatives and members of Wardington Parish Council to highlight the condition of the A361, following the hundreds of HS2 lorries that have been using this route.

Thankfully, OCC has now carried out significant improvements, including new drainage gullies to help tackle the flooding problems and resurfacing works.

I’m pushing for OCC to be reimbursed by HS2 for these works. Yes, ultimately it may all be public money, but the exceptionally heavy HS2 traffic is having a clear impact on the A361, and I believe HS2 should contribute towards putting that right.

Residents also raised the issue of noisy drain covers, which should now be getting fixed.

I’ve also asked HS2 to look at providing funding to support community events in Wardington, including support for events at the village pub, and I’m waiting to hear back.

There are some smaller things that make a difference too. I’ve asked OCC to remove old traffic cones and redundant signage that have been left around the village, and I’ve asked Cherwell District Council to send out its road sweeper to clear debris from pavements following the flooding problems earlier this year.

I’ll continue to monitor this closely. If you live in Wardington and spot problems that haven’t been resolved, or see issues starting to reappear, please get in touch with me.

🏡 Good news for Cherwell’s Local Plan

As Cherwell District Council's Portfolio Holder for Planning, I’m really pleased that the Planning Inspector has confirmed our can move forward to the next stage of hearings.

After a very long wait, this is really positive news and an important step towards getting our new Local Plan in place - helping us deliver the homes and communities we need in the right places, with the right infrastructure alongside them.

A welcome step forward for Cherwell and our communities.
