110 FLOORS. FULL FIRE KIT. ONE INCREDIBLE MISSION. 🚨

Our very own firefighter Carly has been selected for the UK team heading to Atlanta tomorrow for an extraordinary challenge: the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb!

She will be taking on a grueling 110 floors in full operational fire kit—climbing step by step in memory of the 343 firefighters who tragically lost their lives at the World Trade Centre.

​After months of summer training alongside her fantastic team members from the Devon and Somerset team, she is ready. They’re taking on this massive challenge to raise funds for three vital charities incredibly close to our hearts.

With August at an end, it turned out to be Bampton's busiest ever month for the crew and goes into the record books!

We've attended a lot of incidents, predominantly fire based given the hot dry weather but also animal rescues, medical emergencies and standby covers.

Crews travelled to South Wales and Dorset & Wiltshire to assist our neighbouring Services with the large scale incidents they've faced plus supported other stations in the Service with crew members to help keep other appliances available.

Thank you to all the crew who have worked tirelessly and a lot of unsociable hours to achieve this alongside their everyday lives.

August has been a busy month for the station already locally with a lot of wildfires and fires in the open.

On Friday afternoon, Phill, Dean, Jas, Lizzie & Cam were sent to South Wales as part of a mutual aid assistance request to support our colleagues over the Severn with the extensive wild fires they are trying to manage.

The crew, along with others from across the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service plus those from other services all over the UK, worked to manage one of the large fires that was burning on the outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil.

Last night, Adam "Jas" Chamberlain was awarded a Chief Fire Officer's Commendation by Area Manager Si Young.

Adam was recognised for his actions as part of a two appliance crew at Greenbank, Plymouth who in April this year, attended a well established fire in a block of flats. On arriving, the crews identified there were multiple people still in the properties.

They quickly got a ladder in place to the third floor and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, then entered the property rescuing the casualties before providing them with first aid and oxygen which saved lives.

Bampton has a group of staff who, when we have more personnel than needed to fully crew our own appliance, will go and cover other stations across Devon & Somerset in order to help maintain appliance availability elsewhere. On this day, Adam was covering a shift in Plymouth and as it demonstrates, this was invaluable.

Adam has been with the station for 4 years now and is a valued member of the team who always goes above and beyond to help others. We're all incredibly proud of him and this award is highly deserved.

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our charity car wash until later in the year. But you can still come along to the station, meet a few of the crew and pick up some refreshments whilst the kids try their hands at the tombola! We're looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Dean, Phill, Tom, Jas, Jacob & Annie attended this incident on Wednesday afternoon. The driver had a lucky escape and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

The vehicle remains in situ awaiting recovery so please do not approach the scene.

Phill, Jas, Dean, Adam & Jacob attended this incident and were first on scene. The building was well alight so we requested additional fire appliances to support in the efforts to tackle the blaze and secure an ongoing water supply.

Our advice would be that if you have out buildings with animals in them, consider the installation of smoke and/or heat alarms that can notify you in the event of a fire at the earliest stages.

Devastating news 💔

Four dogs died in a devastating fire that destroyed a kennel building in Devon last night.

The fire broke out in Shillingford on the Devon-Somerset border, near Bampton, at around 9.35pm on Sunday (April 19).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said it received a report of a large fire at a shed that was being used as kennels.

As firefighters arrived on scene, the building was described as well alight and four fire engines and a water bowser were deployed to the scene.

The fire service said the building was severely damaged by fire.

Sadly, it has since confirmed to DevonLive that four dogs died in the blaze.

Firefighters from Bampton, Dulverton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe attended the fire, which engulfed a building measuring 15 metres by 11 metres.

Jets, a thermal imaging camera and breathing apparatus were required to bring the fire under control, with crews understood to have remained on scene for several hours.
