The Parish Council, the most local tier of UK government, is a group of locally-elected people looking after, to the best of our ability, the interests of those living and working within Bamford and Thornhill parishes, in the Peak District of Derbyshire. The Council also owns and looks after small amounts of property around Bamford and Thornhill.

SNAKE PASS CLOSURE

The County Council will be closing the A57 Snake Pass 24/7 from Monday 15 June to Friday 3 July for major ground investigations at the Doctor’s Gate landslip. The closure will be between Glossop and the junction for Fairholmes.
Ongoing checks have shown that the ground which supports the road's retaining wall at Doctor's Gate continues to gradually collapse, with cracks continuing to open in the road surface.

NOTES FROM PARISH COUNCIL MEETING, 5th May
(The full minutes are available on the Council's website.)

As happens every May, much of the meeting was taken up by the formalities of it being the Annual Meeting of the Council. These included the election of Chair and Vice-chair for the coming year, and Cllrs Ginny Priestley and Annette Nordhausen Scholes respectively were re-appointed to those roles.

It was decided to accept an offer from Hope Valley Climate Action to acquire their apple-pressing equipment for £250, for use at relevant village events.

BUS ROUTE DIVERSION

A reminder that, because of a complete closure of the A57 near the Rivelin Dams (to deal with a landslip) from next Monday for 6 weeks, the 257 bus route (Sheffield-Bamford-Bakewell) will temporarily run as follows:
Sheffield bus station to Hallamshire Hospital (as normal), then diverted via Hathersage to Bamford. Then it will go to Yorkshire Bridge, where it will turn round, and then it will run as normal from there to Bakewell.

NOTES FROM PARISH COUNCIL MEETING, 7th April
(The full minutes are available on the Council's website.)

The Council was very pleased to co-opt Jake Hickinson into a vacant seat. This means that, for the first time for several years, we now have our full complement of 11 members.

The Council’s as-yet unaudited accounts for the financial year ended 31 March were reviewed. Expenditure had been £20,709 against a budget of £22,896, and so a surplus for the year had resulted, which will be added to the Council’s reserves.

it was noted that the Public Spaces Protection Order in High Peak which prohibits lighting a fire, barbecue, firework or naked flame in a public place remains in force - and, as we come to the warmer weather, the importance of observing this needs re-emphasising to everyone, in order to minimise the risk of fires

DOMESTIC WASTE COLLECTIONS

In theory from today, 31 March, there are national changes to the way domestic waste is collected from your home - but in High Peak that change will not be happening for a little while yet. See details at https://www.highpeak.gov.uk/Waste-collection-changes
