Today’s migration figures released by the Home Office confirm what many ordinary people across the United Kingdom have been saying for years the system is simply not under control.
The UK asylum system is now costing taxpayers billions every single year, with huge sums being spent on hotel accommodation while families here continue to struggle with rising costs and pressure on public services.
People are not wrong to be concerned about the scale of migration and the impact it is having on housing, healthcare and community cohesion. Those concerns deserve to be listened to, not dismissed.
The Government must now take far stronger action to properly control our borders, tackle illegal immigration, speed up removals for those with no right to be here and bring migration down to sustainable levels.
This is not about attacking people who come here legally and contribute positively to society. It is about fairness, common sense and restoring public confidence in a system that many people believe is failing.
