Today is 999 Day.

Today, we remember those who have lost their lives while serving and protecting their communities, and we want to recognise the thousands of people who continue to answer the call when others need help.

From our frontline crews and control room colleagues to those working behind the scenes, including our four-legged partners, thank you for your dedication, courage and commitment.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything you do to keep our communities safe, today and every day ❤️

What matters most to you when it comes to keeping your community safe?

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service does much more than respond to fires. We help prevent emergencies, protect people and businesses, and prepare for a wide range of risks across Lancashire.

Our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) sets out how we’ll help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years.

Earlier this year, we asked what matters most to our communities, and your feedback helped shape our draft plan.

Now, we want to hear what you think about the risks we’ve identified and how we plan to prevent and respond to them.

Have your say: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LFRScrmp2

The survey takes around 5 minutes to complete and closes at 5pm on Friday 9 October 2026.

It only takes one spark to cause serious damage.

A recent fire was caused by careless burning of waste wood next to moorland, damaging approximately 1,000m² of land.

Please take extra care when outdoors: no disposable BBQs, no careless smoking, and always take your rubbish with you.

Remember, if you see a wildfire, call 999 immediately. Don’t assume someone else has already reported it.

Clearing out the garden? Think before you burn.

We’ve had a number of calls recently from members of the public about waste being burned in home gardens.

A bonfire can quickly become more than you bargained for, spreading to fences, sheds or nearby properties. Burning waste can also create smoke that causes problems for your neighbours.

Our advice is simple: avoid garden bonfires wherever possible.

So, before you light that match:
• Garden waste? Use your council’s green waste service where available.
• Furniture or bulky items? Book a collection or take them to your local recycling centre.
• Household rubbish? Don’t burn it – dispose of it properly.

And while the weather is still warm, remember: disposable BBQs don’t belong in parks, fields or moorland. Pack a picnic instead!

If a fire is dangerously out of control and threatening property, call 999.

Breathing Apparatus Drills this week…

Preparing Two of our On-Call crew members for their up and coming Team Leader course.

Being blindfolded and having zero visibility simulates real life difficulties and scenarios firefighters have to deal with.

Continued training enables us to be more confident and then eventually everything becomes second nature.

Although we’ve had some rain recently, the ground remains dry in many areas.

As warmer weather is expected to return, it’s important to remember that Lancashire remains vulnerable to wildfires.

These images show the impact of a fire in a remote area, where dry ground and difficult access can make incidents much harder for our crews to tackle.

Please help protect Lancashire by never lighting campfires or BBQs on moorland, taking your litter home and disposing of ci******es safely.

It only takes one spark for a fire to start.

Bacup Open Day – Postponed

Unfortunately, due to the national deployment of our crews to support ongoing wildfire incidents across the UK, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our Open Day at Bacup Fire Station until further notice.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. We’ll announce a new date as soon as possible, so keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates.

Our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) outlines how we'll help keep Lancashire safer over the next five years.

Following feedback from our communities, partners and employees earlier this year, we've developed our draft plan and are now launching the second phase of our consultation.

We're asking for your views on the community risks we've identified and how we plan to prevent and respond to them.
