🌟 Success Story: Ryan's Journey to Employment 🌟

Living in a rural community and struggling with anxiety and low confidence, Ryan faced significant barriers to employment.

Through support from Thriving Communities Employability, Ryan was able to build confidence, develop new skills, and take positive steps towards a brighter future. With the support of his Officer Robin he explored employment options, identified achievable goals, and secured funding through the Transition Fund to support driving lessons and test, helping to overcome transport barriers.

Ryan embraced every opportunity available, completing a six-week Outdoor Activity Group and gaining qualifications including:

✅ John Muir Award
✅ National Navigation Award
✅ Paddle Start
✅ First Aid Certification

He also passed his driving test first time! 🚗👏

Most recently, Ryan secured a Tailored Job Opportunity with South Ayrshire Council, Dolphin House Outdoor Education Centre. After demonstrating commitment and a positive attitude during a six-week programme, he progressed from work experience into paid employment, securing 25 hours of employment per week.

This achievement has increased Ryan's confidence, independence, financial security, and opened exciting future career opportunities.

Ryan said: 💬 "For a long time, my anxiety stopped me from moving forward, but attending therapy and receiving support from Thriving Communities I have learned ways to manage it. I feel more confident now and ready to take the next step towards employment and building a future for myself."

🌟 As we approach Scottish Employability Day 2026, we're celebrating the achievements of individuals like Brandon, whose journey highlights the positive impact of employability support, volunteering, and community engagement.

Brandon has been building his confidence and skills with Thriving Communities Employability by attending our engager groups, developing his interview skills, creating his CV, and gaining valuable experience through work placements.

Thriving Communities Employability were able to source a placement within our Community Learning & Development team where Brandon has continued to grow through volunteering at a local Walk & Wheel session with our Health & Wellbeing team.

We're delighted to share that last week Brandon completed his Walking & Wheeling Leader Course and is now looking to establish another Walk & Wheel group in Ayr. 🚶‍♂️♿🚶‍♀️

His journey demonstrates how placements and volunteering opportunities can help people gain new skills, build confidence, develop experience, and open doors to future opportunities.
