Following the sad passing of Cara, we were deeply touched to learn that Cara's family chose to raise funds in support of The Place. Cara was a valued and familiar part of our community, and our team will greatly miss the warmth, kindness and positivity that Cara brought to every visit.

We are incredibly grateful to Cara's family and everyone who donated, raising £649.07 to support our work at The Place and help us continue supporting others in the community.

International Day of Charity 💜

Every year on 5th September, International Day of Charity recognises the work charities do in communities around the world and the people who give their time, support and skills to help others.

For us, being a charity is about everything that happens between the big moments.

It’s the groups that have grown, the people we’ve met, the conversations we’ve had and all the memories that have been made along the way.

Looking back through some of our photos, there are so many moments that have helped shape us into what we are today. Some are from big events and exciting milestones, while others are simply ordinary days spent together. They all matter.

So, for International Day of Charity, we’re looking back at just a few of those moments and appreciating everyone who has been part of our journey so far 💜

Poetry Plus Spotlight ✨
For Alison, Poetry Plus is something she looks forward to every week!

It’s a chance to meet other people, hear different ideas and learn from what everyone else brings to the group.

One of the things Alison values most is being able to share her poetry without feeling judged or awkward. The relaxed atmosphere means everyone can feel comfortable reading their work, getting constructive feedback and hearing the different poems and ideas others have come up with too.

For Alison, it’s always a positive place to spend time, share something she enjoys and see what everyone has been working on that week.

Poetry Plus Spotlight ✨
You don’t need to call yourself a poet to have something worth writing down ✍️

Poetry in Motion is about taking thoughts, ideas and everyday inspiration and seeing where they can lead.

The group spend time talking, sharing different thoughts and working together to turn them into poetry. Sometimes inspiration comes from a conversation, sometimes from something they’ve discovered, and sometimes it takes them somewhere completely unexpected.

There’s no pressure to arrive with the perfect words or even know exactly what you want to write. Part of the fun is figuring that out along the way!

Fancy writing a letter, getting your hands dirty or doing absolutely nothing but having a cuppa? We’ve got you covered this week!

We’ve got another full week ahead, with the Public Living Room marking World Letter Writing Day on Tuesday, plenty still growing at Craigie Allotment, a chance to switch off at the Sound Bath and all of our usual groups happening throughout the week.

Whether you want to get involved in something, try somewhere new or just get yourself out of the house for a couple of hours, have a look at the timetable and see what takes your fancy.

Sometimes the hardest part is deciding what to try first!

The growing doesn’t have to stop just because summer is coming to an end!

We asked David what he’d like to grow next at Craigie Allotment, and rather than having one thing in mind, he’s thinking ahead to the colder months.

After spending the summer watching the beds fill up with everything from tomatoes to broad beans, he’s hoping to find things that keep the allotment growing throughout the winter months too.

Now the question is… what should David grow next? 👀 Let us know your winter growing suggestions!

Today’s the day our Girvan Women’s Group is officially here!

We’ve spent the last few weeks getting everything ready, sharing a little about what the Women’s Group is all about and now it’s time to actually open the doors.

Today is just the beginning. We’re looking forward to meeting everyone who comes along, finding out what you’d like to see from the group and watching it grow into something that feels like Girvan’s own.

Come in, have a chat, get involved as much or as little as you’d like and see what you think.
