Mayor of Aylesbury

Mayor of Aylesbury The Mayor of Aylesbury 2026-27 is Cllr Sherrilyn Bateman It is a role steeped in tradition and ceremony.

The power of the Mayor has diminished throughout the centuries but the office continues to have a central part to play within modern Councils. The Mayor represents the Authority and its area, with the insignia of the mace, robes, and chains of office. The Mayor connects the present day with history and acts as a symbol of continuity. Prior to the twentieth century the choice of Mayor was in realit

y very restricted, but today the First Citizen can (and does) come from any class, gender or ethnic background. This new diversity reflects the more open and democratic society we now live in. The many engagements undertaken by the Mayor act as a link between the various groups and organisations in the town. The Mayor can share the views and concerns of the community with the Council. The Mayor can also take the Council’s message out into the community and work towards achieving the Council’s social, educational and economic aims.

August Bank Holiday weekend marked the biggest musical summer bash of the mayoral calendar! From the excitement of Battle of the Bands to the tradition and community spirit of the Proms concert, it was a wonderful weekend celebrating music in all its forms.

There was a spectacular line-up of professional bands as well as the stunning headline performance from The Eclectix, I was proud to see so much amazing local talent take centre stage. It was fantastic to introduce this year's Battle of the Bands competition as part of Parklife Weekend and witness an incredible showcase of local musical talent throughout the event.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, supported the event, and helped make the competition such a brilliant celebration of music in our community. 🎶

I was also delighted to see the competition shine a light on my chosen charity, Aylesbury Homeless Action Group (AHAG). The support of our sponsors not only helps make events like this possible, but also raises awareness of the important work AHAG does to support people experiencing homelessness in our community. 💙

Parklife was made even more special by the Proms in the Park concert preformed by Aylesbury Concert Band , which brought people together to celebrate music, community spirit and the traditions that make events like Parklife Weekend such a cherished part of Aylesbury's calendar.

Congratulations to all of the performers, and thank you for giving Aylesbury such a fantastic night of live music! 🎸👏
