On Assignment: Taking RAF Media Overseas

Cpl Ian and Cpl Hannah recently travelled to Romania to support a major international gathering of military reservists from across NATO and partner nations.

Working alongside international media teams, they covered symposiums, meetings and the Military Competition (MILCOMP) – showcasing the people and partnerships that strengthen the Alliance.

A fantastic opportunity to represent the RAF, work with NATO partners and put their specialist media skills to work internationally.

Have you ever wondered how civilian media and the military combine to provide effective training? 📸

This month, Media Reserves have been in Scotland supporting the RAF Mountain Rescue Service on a multi-agency crash exercise. 

As well as helping to gather video and photographs of the exercise, aviators from 7644 Sqn drew on their civilian media experience to provide simpress injects, giving personnel experience of interacting with journalists.

A special day for RAF Media Reservists over at RAF Reserves Northern Ireland - 502 Squadron last week, with a front row seat photographing and co-ordinating media as cadets, veterans, local families and members of the Royal Air Force family from across Northern Ireland joined Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to mark the 85th anniversary of the Air Training Corps. ✈️

📸 Behind the lens at RAF Brize Norton.

At short notice, AS1 Topping and Cpl Brown were tasked with photographing Tactical Medical Wing training aboard a Voyager aircraft.

Working alongside personnel from Tactical Medical Wing and the Joint Hospital Group, they captured Aeromedical Evacuation training as teams rehearsed casualty care and prepared for large-scale combat operations, with Air-to-Air Refuelling forming part of the training serial.

Whether responding at short notice or supporting planned exercises, RAF Media Reservists are ready to capture the people, training and operations that keep the Royal Air Force mission ready.

Produced by RAF Media Reserves, the latest episode of InsideAIR goes behind the scenes with the RAF's Mobile Meteorological Unit to discover how they provide vital weather intelligence in support of operations around the world.

The episode also explores the fascinating history of military weather forecasting ahead of the release of Pressure, the film telling the story of the forecast that helped launch the D-Day landings.

It's another great example of RAF Media Reserves helping bring the stories of today's Royal Air Force to life through engaging digital content.

From basic training to an A400M in just one week.

After passing Basic Recruit Training Course, AS Oseland flew from RAF Brize Norton to Norway onboard an A400M Atlas to capture content during a low-level flying exercise.

The footage formed part of the training serial for Exercise Cold Response, giving him an early opportunity to put his media skills into practice in a military environment.

It’s just one example of how RAF Media Reservists support exercises and operations by capturing the content that helps tell the story of the Royal Air Force.

As RAF Media Reserves, we're privileged to help tell the stories of the Royal Air Force through photography, videography, audio, communications support and social media and content creation. From exercises and operations to community engagement and ceremonial events, our role is to capture the people and moments that reflect the dedication, professionalism and spirit of service found across the Armed Forces.
