🌍🌱♻️ It’s Zero Waste Week! ♻️🌱🌍

Here at Tiny Acorns, we’re always looking for little ways to make a BIG difference! 💚

From reducing, reusing and recycling to making more sustainable choices in our everyday routines, we’re helping our little acorns learn how important it is to look after our wonderful planet. 🌎🌱

See below some of the ways we’re working to reduce waste here at Tiny Acorns, along with some simple ideas you can try at home too! 🏡♻️

Small changes can make a big difference when we all work together. 💚🌍

💚🫧 Green gloop exploration! 🫧💚

Our babies had so much fun getting hands-on with green gloop this morning!🖐️ They loved feeling the texture, moving their hands through the gloop and discovering the marks they could make. ✨

They also enjoyed pushing the cars through the gloop 🚗, watching the tracks appear, and moving the play people around the tray. 👫

This wonderful sensory experience encouraged the babies to strengthen their hands and fingers, develop their hand-eye coordination and practise controlled movements. 🖐️✨ At the same time, we introduced lots of new words such as green, sticky, smooth, car, people and mark, supporting their understanding and communication as they explored. 💬

It was lovely to see their curiosity, concentration and enjoyment as they experimented and learned through play! 🌟

🕷️ Spidey Webs: Process Over Product! 🕸️

Today our preschool children got creative making their very own Spidey webs using string, glue and scissors but the real learning was in the process, not the finished picture! ❤️

As the children explored this activity, they were developing important fine motor skills through cutting, holding and manipulating the string, while using glue carefully and purposefully.

At Tiny Acorns, we value process over product. It’s not about everyone creating the same perfect finished piece; it’s about giving children opportunities to explore, experiment, make decisions and develop skills along the way.

And, of course… a little Spidey fun makes the learning even more exciting! 🕷️🕸️✨

We’ve recently introduced some new resource bags for our children and families to borrow and explore together at home!

Although biting occurs as a natural part of some children’s development, we know it can be distressing for children and parents. Children may bite for lots of different reasons, including teething, frustration, excitement or overstimulation, oral exploration, or simply not yet having the words to communicate what they want or need.

Our Biting Resource Bags include ‘Teeth Are Not for Biting’ story, a mirror for children to explore their own teeth, and different sensory resources that provide a safe alternative for children who have the urge to bite or chew!

These bags have been created to be be borrowed and taken home, allowing families to use them alongside the strategies we put in place at nursery.

This is the first of our home resource bags, with more covering different areas of children’s development to follow!

✨ A morning in the life of a Tiny Acorns Practitioner 🌱

Before we open our doors at 8am, there’s lots happening behind the scenes to make sure our nursery is ready for a happy, safe and welcoming start to the day.

👋 Signing in & settling in
Practitioners begin their day by signing themselves in and registering their phones. This helps our managers know exactly who is on site in case of an emergency, as well as where mobile devices are located.

🔍 Morning safety checks
Once in their rooms, practitioners complete their morning checklists. This includes checking for any potential hazards in the room and garden, checking the water temperature and making sure there is fresh air circulating throughout the room.

🥣 Breakfast preparation
Breakfast starts promptly at 8am, so the team gets everything ready beforehand. We make sure the children have everything they need to enjoy their breakfast and, wherever possible, self-serve — encouraging independence and giving children a positive start to their day.

There’s lots of preparation that happens before the first little ones arrive, but every detail helps us create a safe, nurturing and welcoming environment for our children. 💛🌱

With the warm weather, our babies have been enjoying lots of exciting water play! 💦 This week, we created a fun beach-themed tuff tray filled with colourful water and sand. 🏝️✨

We added little boats 🚤 and sea animals🐙 for the babies to explore. They loved splashing the animals in the water, moving the boats around, and discovering all the different textures and objects. 💦😊

It was a wonderful sensory experience that encouraged curiosity, exploration and lots of smiles! 🌊

Our Preschool children had lots of fun learning about the importance of handwashing and good hygiene through a hands-on activity! 💦🧤

The children used water, paint, gloves and pipettes to explore how germs can spread and why washing our hands thoroughly is so important. We talked together about when we should wash our hands, how to wash them properly, and how good hygiene helps to keep ourselves and others healthy. 🫧👏

The Tiny Acorns Preschoolers are in a great habit of always making bubbles when they wash their hands and to count to 20 for a proper clean!

🌈✨ Sensory Room Adventures! ✨🌈

This week, our little ones have been having lots of fun exploring our sensory room! 🥰

We enjoyed some exciting sensory discos 🎶, listening to music, moving along to the sounds and exploring all the wonderful sensory resources around us.

The babies were fascinated by our textured and colourful mirrors 🪞🌈, enjoying looking at their reflections and discovering themselves. They also had lots of fun exploring our sensory toys, investigating the different textures, colours, shapes and sounds through hands-on play. 👋

It was lovely to see so much curiosity, wonder and excitement as the babies explored their surroundings and enjoyed this special sensory experience together. ✨🎵

This week we explored the fascinating topic of solar eclipses! 🌞🌑 The children enjoyed drawing their own pictures of an eclipse and talking about what happens when the Moon passes in front of the Sun. We also made sure to discuss the importance of not looking at the eclipse directly and what we could use to protect our eyes.

We enjoyed reading a book about adverse weather 🌦️, learning new words and sharing our ideas about the different things we see in the sky.

A lovely day of learning, creativity and curiosity! ☀️📚🎨

With the cooler but still warm weather, the toddlers have been busy getting out and about, exploring the environment around them on walks through the village! 🌳☀️

The toddlers did an amazing job holding onto the walking rope and staying together as we looked at all the different things around us. While on our walk, we spotted lots of bins! The children noticed that some were blue and green, which sparked a conversation about recycling and what different things we can put into our recycling bins. ♻️🗑️ The toddlers were full of ideas as we sharing ideas with one another. This was especially lovely to see the children's enthusiasm shine through as we have become an Eco Setting.🌍

When we stopped for a well-deserved drink break, we were very excited to spot a bin lorry! 🚛 The toddlers eagerly waved to the bin men and women as they went past. 👋

It was so lovely to see the toddlers’ curiosity shine as they explored a different environment, noticed what was happening in their local community and learnt more about caring for the world around them. 🌿
