Axminster Fire Station were mobilised on a priority make up message from Ilminster to βMake Pumps 4 & Water Carrier 1β for an incident at Peasmarsh.
Ilminster crews were initially mobilised to a single vehicle fire; however, this quickly spread to a further two vehicles, resulting in three vehicles fully involved in fire.
The fire had also spread to a large detached garage. Due to this escalation, additional resources were requested accordingly.
Upon arrival, our crews supported the initial firefighting operations by running out hose lines and assisting the BA wearers already committed to tackling the fire.
Our crews then relieved two BA wearers who were nearing the end of their wear duration.
At this stage, BA crews were dampening down hotspots and carrying out turning over operations.
After replenishing BA cylinders, our crews were made available and released from the incident, returning to home station ready for further calls.
Unfortunately, all three vehicles and the large detached garage were completely destroyed by fire.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Control Room received a phone call from a member of the public informing them of an unattended smouldering fire within the woods at Trinity Hill outside Axminster. Fire Control immediately mobilise to investigate.
Unfortunately, the details passed over to our crew were very limited with the location of this Fire, which meant potential concerns when deploying firefighting media. However, fortunately this time crew were able to locate the unattended fire.
Our crew swiftly extinguished this fire. Due to the landscape on Trinity Hill, it was fortunate that this fire was tackled when it was as it was only a couple metres away from some gorse which couldβve made this incident a lot more trickier.
This incident is a good reminder to download what three words. What three words is a fantastic app which will give a unique reference to the location you are in and this can be shared to a Fire Control team to support a direct and effective response.

At the time of this phone call Colyton was already at a different job so Axminster were mobilise to attend.
Whilst on route Fire Control received further information and at the time Colyton became available and we mobilised this incident to support Axminster.
Both Fire crews arrived pretty much at the same time, to see a supermarket delivery vehicle fully involved in Fire with signs of spread to nearby hedge and facias from a domestic property beginning to melt.
Initial fire attack was made using two hose jets one focused on the vehicle one focused towards the hedge and the domestic property to stop any fire spread. This is then upgraded to a 45mm attack jet. The fire was swiftly put out with no fire spread to the domestic property.
Once the fire was extinguished, thermal imaging camera was used to identify any hotspots of which were turned over and dampened down.
After an on-scene debrief with all equipment stowed and breathing apparatus cylinders replaced our crews returned home station.
