Share your views on proposals for a second new town, being put forward as part of East Devonโ€™s new draft Local Plan.
Three proposed options for a new community have been presented including one favoured option on land between the A30 and the A3052 to the north and east of Westpoint.
Two other alternative options are also being seriously considered โ€“ this includes land to the south of the A3052 and east of the A376 and Clyst St George village.

The Parish Council and Community Shop Committee would like to thank all parishioners who returned their ballot papers for counting.

317 ballot envelopes were collected, representing over 76% response rate.

The envelopes were opened by an independent teller and the results are as follows:

In SUPPORT of the Project proceeding (incl. a precept increase of up to ยฃ25 per annum) - 216 ballots = 68.1%

NOT in support - 97 ballots = 30.6%

Ballot papers spoiled or blank - 4 = 1.3%

Therefore, it has been declared that the community - by a majority indicative vote - supports the project and endorses the Parish Council's intention to seek approval for borrowing from the PWLB to support the acquisition of the shop as a community enterprise in conjunction with the funds raised by the Community Shop Committee and the local Chardstock community who have generously contributed over ยฃ240,000 towards the project.

Update:

As at 6.25pm this evening, 317 ballot envelopes had been collected by an incredibly dedicated and hard-working team of volunteers. This represents a response rate of 76.7% (from the 413 ballot packs delivered by hand to parish households). A truly fantastic turnout!
Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in this consultative ballot.

The ballot envelopes will now be opened in accordance with the process guide and the ballot papers tallied and counted by a 3rd
party, entirely unconnected with either the Community Shop Group,
the Parish Council or any resident of the parish.

It is hoped that a result will be available by Tuesday. This will then determine whether the Chardstock Community supports the principle of the Parish Council taking out a long-term loan to support the purchase of the community shop (in conjunction with the fund-raising efforts already undertaken).

Watch this space for further details.

Paul Hayward, Parish Clerk.

Gardening this weekend?

The Parish Council (as always) has arranged for 3 โ€œgreen wasteโ€ skips to be provided in the Community Hall car park for the duration of the Easter weekend, as an amenity for parish residents.

Please feel free to deposit your green garden waste into the skips which will be collected after Tuesday.

This is a parish service to try and prevent unnecessary and (with fuel prices so high) expensive trips to Chard and Wilmington recycling centres.

On behalf of the Parish Council, might we respectfully ask that nothing other than green waste be deposited into the skips as this will result in penalty charges for the Council which ultimately have to be paid for by parish taxpayers.

Wishing you all a very peaceful, relaxing and tranquil Easter weekend.

Notice of the forthcoming Parish Council Ordinary meeting to be held on 13th April 2022 at 7.30pm in the Community Hall.
