Your new Mayor Councillor Jacky Chambers at The Big Weekender in Atherstone.

As Town Mayor it was a real privilege to attend the D-Day tribute in the Market Square at the start of the Big Weekender.

The reading of The Longest Day and the Last Post played on the bugle were simple but powerful moments of remembrance — a reminder of this huge moment in history, and how much was given by so many. 🇬🇧

Thank you to everyone involved for organising such a dignified tribute as part of the Big Weekender. A really moving morning, filled with both pride and sadness.

Final duties as retiring Mayor last night at the Town Council meeting, presenting cheques to the two groups that I have been raising funds for this year. Craig Bird received the cheque on behalf of Restore Collective Men's Wellbeing Group. The cheque for Atherstone Veterans'Contact Point was presented to Ivor and Elaine Hopkins and Tony Clews.
The new Mayor and Deputy were elected by the Council. The Mayor for 2026-2027 is Councillor Jacky Chambers. The Deputy is Councillor Mick Thomas. I wish them both the very best as they begin their new roles.

A very busy few days with Civic events. Friday evening we attended the Civic Dinner for Stratford District Council Mayor, Councillor Kate Rolfe, with a Fawlty Towers theme. Then on Saturday we attended Warwickshire Scouting Festival Get in 2026 at Ragley Hall, Alcester, which was amazing.. On Sunday, at the invitation of the Mayor of Stratford upon Avon, Councillor Dani Hunter, we did a guided walking tour of Stratford led by our most knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, Owen. This was followed by a riverboat cruise, sampling Shakespeare Distillery gin. We were very lucky with the weather despite the forecast.

Thank you Atherstone Amateur Dramatic Society for a great evening's entertainment at OSCA, watching the production of Agatha Christie's " And then there were none". Great performances by the cast.
Congratulations to everyone involved, not only the director Michael Emscot, the actors on stage but also those working behind the scenes that help to bring the performance to the audience.

What a fantastic night at The Red Lion in Atherstone for the Civic Dinner Dance. Thank you to Anthony and all the staff. The Long Room was beautifully laid out and the meal was absolutely delicious. Thank you too to Luv2Disco for providing the musical entertainment, which had us up on the dancefloor after dinner burning off those calories. Thank you to all who attended, members of the "Chain Gang", fellow Councillors, Honorary Citizens, representatives of community groups and friends. The raffle was very successful I am very grateful to all the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes. All the proceeds and the funds raised will go to my 2 chosen local charities, Atherstone Veterans' Contact Point and Restore Collective's Men's Wellbeing Group.
