There’s no magic answer that’ll encourage your baby to sleep longer, whilst still keeping them as safe as possible. 🪄
Babies’ sleep cycles are only about one hour long and are opposite to adults. First they fall into active sleep where they can wake more easily, which lasts for about 20 minutes, then they move into the quiet sleep stage where they are sleeping more deeply.
This cycle of sleep happens both when your baby is having a daytime nap and during the night.
Because adult and baby sleep cycles are so different, it’s unlikely that your baby will be sleeping deeply at exactly the same time as you. This can be really difficult for parents and carers, who often have to survive on very little sleep. But it can be helpful to understand more about why your baby is waking so often.

The Autism & ADHD Advocates CIC is holding a whole-family online session today at 5.30 pm.
This session is for parents, carers, children and young people to attend together, so families can learn the same language and begin to understand each other better.
The session will focus on SEND, ADHD, executive functioning, emotions and everyday family challenges. They will talk about why some children and young people may struggle with things like organisation, attention, emotional regulation, waiting, change, sensory overwhelm and communication.
The aim is to help families reduce blame, arguments and misunderstandings by helping both parents and children understand what may be happening underneath the behaviour.
Children and young people do not have to speak or have their camera on. They can listen, draw, fidget, move around or take breaks if needed.

Did you know babies don’t just see in black and white? Babies can actually see some colour from birth.
At one week they can see very intense red or green colours.
At three months they can see yellow-ish colours and tell yellow and blue colours apart
