Celebrating Katie’s 25 Years of Volunteering 🤩

Today, we had the pleasure of surprising Katie, one of our amazing Health and Wellbeing volunteers, as she celebrates an incredible milestone - 25 years of volunteering with us as an exercise instructor!

Over a quarter of a century, Katie has dedicated thousands of hours to delivering exercise classes, helping hundreds of people stay active, healthy, and connected. Her commitment, enthusiasm, and support have made a lasting difference to so many lives.

To mark the occasion, Anne and Susan presented Katie with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and we enjoyed some delicious cake with Katie and her exercise group at Hepscott Parish Hall.

It was a wonderful morning of celebration and appreciation. Thank you, Katie, for your outstanding dedication, generosity, and commitment to Age UK Northumberland over the past 25 years. Your contribution is truly valued, and we are so grateful for everything you do. 🌸🎉

It’s been wonderful to see encouraging responses to the sessions in Ponteland, Hirst and Stakeford, with participants building strength, improving balance, and growing in confidence each week.

Designed for people aged 50+ and supported by Sport England, the classes offer a friendly and welcoming environment where attendees can stay active, improve their wellbeing, and support healthy ageing.

A huge thank you to everyone who takes part - we're delighted to see the positive difference these classes are making!

This week is .

Carers’ Week is an annual campaign that shines a spotlight on the challenges faced by unpaid carers and celebrates the vital contribution they make to their families, friends, and communities.

This year’s theme focuses on building carer-friendly communities. These are places, services, organisations, and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued. By making support part of everyday life, carer-friendly communities help ensure carers have access to the opportunities, resources, and assistance they need.

At Age UK Northumberland, we’re proud to support Carers’ Week and raise awareness of the important role unpaid carers play.

It’s the final day of our celebrations, and we hope you’ve enjoyed watching our short films highlighting just a few of the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and commitment to Age UK Northumberland. It’s been inspiring to hear how volunteering makes a positive difference not only to the people they support, but also to their own lives.

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on the fantastic June and Ray. They volunteer at our Amble Friendship Group and also lend a helping hand at our monthly meals at The Round House. Many of our regular visitors will also recognise them as Mr and Mrs Claus at Christmas, bringing smiles and laughter all the way!

June told us:
“We thoroughly enjoy doing what we do with Age UK Northumberland, they’re very supportive… meeting people and helping out, and supporting Age UK where and when we can”.

A huge thank you to June and Ray for their kindness, humour, friendship and unwavering dedication. We are so grateful for everything they do to support Age UK Northumberland, and the people we serve.
