Following the governmentโ€™s announcement that Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Kent and Medway is being paused pending a review, council leaders across the county are seeking clarity from the government on a number of issues.

In the meantime, we remain 100% focused on delivering the best possible services for those who live, work and study in the county while supporting our staff who do an incredible job day in and day out.

Yesterday (7 September 2026), the government issued a press release announcing local government reorganisation (LGR) in Kent and Medway is being paused and reviewed alongside 13 other areas across the country.

Chief Executives across Kent and Medway are now working together to understand what this means and are liaising with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to gain further clarity about how long this pause will last, what this means for the LGR timetable.

As part of plans to make the Colonel Stephens Greenway more accessible all year round, Kent County Council, working alongside contractor Ringway, is resurfacing 650 metres of the route.

Colonel Stephens Greenway is Tenterden's only designated cycle route and provides an important traffic-free link between St Michael's and the town centre, so the resurfacing will make life a lot easier for people to use in all weathers.

Work will begin in October - subject to weather conditions - and will take around four weeks to complete.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ From blockbuster films and children's matinees to bingo nights and community events, the former Odeon/Mecca Bingo building has been at the heart of local life for decades.

We're delighted that Ashford Borough Council is moving forward with plans to bring the building back into cultural use. Through two recent community engagement sessions, we've already collected some wonderful memories and insights, demonstrating just how much affection there is for this iconic building.

Fret not, we have another one THIS Wednesday! (9 September)

From 9:30am-4:30pm at Warehorne Village Hall (TN26 2LH), residents can safely recycle their unwanted small electrical items and keep them out of landfill at the same time.

This includes anything with a plug, battery or cable - just make sure it's microwave-sized or smaller.

There's no need to sign up, just turn up!

๐Ÿšฒ A reminder that the first post summer Cycling UK Big Bike Revival adult supported bike ride is TOMORROW!!!!!!

Held at Victoria Park Ashford, these rides will be taking place every weekend in September.

Depending on attendees, the ride lasts between 1-2 hours and is designed for adults and accompanied teenagers to get on their bikes and get moving!

Held over 5 and 6 September between 9am-5pm at St Teresaโ€™s Church Hall (TN24 8TX), residents can safely recycle their unwanted electrical items and keep them out of landfill at the same time.

This includes computers, mobile phones, processors, DVD players and other unwanted electrical equipment!
