Temporary Traffic Regulation Order

Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order to facilitate THE ANNUAL ASHBY STATUTES.

The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be implemented for public safety.

PRESS RELEASE Ashby de la Zouch Town Council 1st September 2026

Twenty is plenty

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council is seeking urgent clarification from Leicestershire County Council following significant and unexpected changes to the proposed 20mph speed limit scheme for the town.
In January this year, speed surveys were carried out across Ashby, including key routes in the town centre and roads outside Ashby School and Ashby CofE Primary School.

These surveys demonstrated that a number of roads met the criteria for inclusion within a 20mph zone. In March, the Town Council received an initial draft plan reflecting this evidence, showing a wide ranging 20mph scheme across multiple residential and central routes.

However, the version now released for public consultation is substantially reduced. Roads originally identified as suitable—including Wood Street, Nottingham Road (up to Woodcock Way), Derby Road, The Callis, Smisby Road, Burton Road and Prior Park Road have been removed. This has created anomalies such as Prior Park Road remaining at 30mph while all access routes to it are proposed to be 20mph.

In correspondence with the Town Council, Leicestershire County Council has confirmed that these roads were not removed due to new speed data or any change in technical suitability. Instead, Leicestershire County Council advised that the reduction in scope resulted from concerns raised by a number of unnamed stakeholders regarding the scale of the scheme. In particular, representations were made seeking a substantial reduction in the extent of the proposed 20mph area to encompass just North Street, Market Street and South Street.

Leicestershire County Council has now proposed a compromise solution limiting the 20mph area to North Street, The Green, Mill Bank, Market Street, South Street, Bath Street, Lower Church Street, Hill Street & Kilwardby Street.
With Leicestershire Police indicating in March that they support the wider scheme the only barrier to the scheme being fully implemented sits with the County Council.

Ashby Town Council wishes to highlight that:
• The Town Council has consistently supported a 20mph limit for town centre roads.
• The January speed survey evidence supported a wider 20mph zone than the one now proposed.
• The changes made since March are not based on the survey data or road safety evidence.
• Ashby is suffering from speeding issues particularly in the Money Hill area and along Nottingham Road and Wood Street which need to be addressed.

These matters will be discussed at the Town Council’s Planning Committee meeting on 7th September, where councillors will consider the implications of the revised proposal and agree next steps.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Order
Baker Avenue, Ashby de la Zouch

Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice at the above location.

The Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice will be implemented for public safety for Severn Trent Water to facilitate water main repairs.

A road closure is required on Baker Avenue, Ashby de la Zouch from Smedley Close heading south for approximately 25m on the 2nd September 2026, once works are completed the road will reopen, this is not expected to exceed three days.

The proposed alternative diversion route will be signed on site.

(IMPOSITION OF 20MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 202
THE LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL hereby gives notice that it proposes to make an Order under Section 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act

1984 (“the Act”), and of all other enabling powers, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act, the effect of which will be:

To introduce a 20 mph speed limit on various roads in Ashby de la Zouch town centre.

Additionally, the Order will include the roads within the existing signed 20 mph zones at Westfields and Holywell Park, so that the 20 mph restrictions for those roads are contained in the new Order.

The roads are already signed as 20 mph and no physical changes to the signs or road layout are proposed in those areas.

A copy of the proposed Order, together with a plan illustrating the proposals and an explanatory statement giving the Council's reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected during normal office hours at my offices, Room 200, County Hall, Glenfield,
Leicester LE3 8RA or at the offices of North West Leicestershire District Council at Belvoir Road, Coalville, LE67 3PD and on the Notice Board of Ashby De la Zouch Town Council.

NN46 | Car Cruise Update

Monday evening, Sergeant Bell and PC Lang attended a residents' meeting for what is locally known as the ‘Money Hill Estate’ in Ashby to discuss the ongoing issues and concerns caused by car cruising and associated anti-social behaviour.

The meeting was well attended, with the council chamber at full capacity. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend and share their concerns. We were also pleased to be joined by Paul Collett, Team Leader for Community Safety at North West Leicestershire District Council, and Ward Councillor Murrae Blair-Park, whose support is greatly appreciated.

A number of key issues were discussed, and a clear action plan has been established to address anti-social behaviour and car cruising across Ashby, on a short and long term basis. We remain committed to working with our partners and local communities to address these concerns and improve the quality of life for residents.

We would like to thank those who continue to engage positively with us and help identify problem areas. However, to those involved in anti-social behaviour and unlawful car cruising activities, this is a clear message: stop now. Enforcement action will continue, and those responsible can expect robust action where offences are identified.

Together, we will continue to make Ashby a safer place for everyone.

📢 Beat Surgery Date Change
Unfortunately, our planned Beat Surgery/Local Officer Drop-In Session at Tesco, Ashby on 24/08 has had to be rescheduled.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The event will now take place on 23/08 at 3pm.

This change is due to officers attending an important meeting regarding one of our local beat priorities, focusing on car cruising and associated issues on the A511 and Warner Road Estate.
