Angus Council Fostering and Adoption

Angus Council Fostering and Adoption Angus Council Fostering and Adoption teams recruits and supports foster carers and adoptive parents for Angus's children. Call for more info.

Angus Council provides a range of services and resources to support parents to look after their own children. While our goal is to help families stay together, there are times when children and young people cannot live in their own home. Illness, unemployment and changing family circumstances can all lead to tension and stress. Sometimes parents feel unable to cope, sometimes children are neglecte

d or abused. When families are struggling sometimes they need a break from each other. In most such cases where children need to be in care, they are placed with foster carers. Children and young people of all ages need the care and support of foster carers - from babies to 18 years old. Foster carers can provide care, stability and support. This helps children and young people to grow and develop in a positive environment. Parents remain significant and important people in most children's lives and foster carers often work alongside social workers to improve the relationship between parents and their children through regular and positive contact. Some of these children and young people will return home, some will move on to a new permanent family and some will leave care to live independently in their own flat or other suitable accommodation in the community.

Some of our foster carers, children and team members took part in a Foster Carer Walk as part of Foster Care Fortnight. It was a lovely opportunity to come together, enjoy a walk and have a catch up.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in activities across the fortnight and continues to make a difference to children and young people across Angus. 💙

Pam, one of our foster carers, shares what fostering means to her. 🫶🏻

“Not every child is lucky enough to have a great start in life but as foster carers we can make sure they have a great ending.
“Fostering is 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week but I wouldn't change it for the world. When you see the difference you've made to a child's life there is no greater reward.
“I've had a few changes of career in my working life but never found a job that I looked forward to getting up in the morning and doing - until I started fostering.”

Pam's experience reflects the difference foster carers make every day to children and young people across Angus. If you’d like to find out more about fostering, get in touch.

Lindsey Laing, Manager, shares what inspires her most about the foster carers she works with across Angus.

"The foster carers I work with amaze me because they lean into connection, not control. They offer a calm, predictable presence that helps children make sense of the world.

"They prove every day that ordinary people can make extraordinary differences... and in doing so, they help children feel safe, valued and able to thrive."

👀 Last true or false for Foster Care Fortnight. Foster carers receive financial support🤔

✅ True! Foster carers receive financial support, including an allowance to help cover the costs of caring for a child, as well as a fee for themselves. Fostering is about making a difference in a child’s life — but financial support is there too. 🥰

True or False? 👀 I can’t foster because I’m LGBTQ+ 🤔

False!! You can foster regardless of your sexual orientation or identity. What matters most is you are there to care for and support children or young people. 🫶🏻
