Local Elections Thursday 7th May

Robin Hughes – Andover West
Robin has strong roots in Andover, having lived and worked here since 1960. Before retiring, Robin worked as an engineer within the defence sector for several Andover-based firms. Through his extensive experience in this sector, he has seen first-hand how local workmanship is protecting our nation from harm. Robin is currently a Borough and Town Councillor and has formerly been Mayor of Andover. He is committed to ensuring public money is spent responsibly and that local services are protected.

Jason Sangster – Andover North
Jason has lived and grown up in Andover, with his parents running local businesses in Andover. Jason lives locally in Andover with his family, and his son attends a local school. Jason has already been championing our area as a Borough Councillor on Test Valley Borough Council for the last four years and was disappointed to see Hampshire County Council choose to close Smannell & Enham Church Primary School. Jason brings over fifteen years of real-world experience, working for an international IT company. He has risen from Engineer to his current role of Director.

Luigi Gregori – Andover South
Luigi was a former Colonel in the Army for over thirty years and, since retiring, has focused on championing Andover, alongside running a small local business in town. Luigi has been a Borough and Town Councillor for Andover since 2023, and in that time has championed improvements in local infrastructure while also holding councils accountable for how they spend public money. He and his family live locally in Andover, with strong roots in the community, and he has also been Andover’s’ Parliamentary Candidate in the last two general elections.

Former Conservative Councillor backs Lib Dems🌲➡️🔶in Local Elections on Thursday 7th May.

Former Conservative Councillor, now Independent Katie Brooks is backing Jason Sangster to be next Andover North Councillor.

In her Message Backing Jason, Katie Said:
"I was a member of the Conservative Party for many years, and in 2023 I had the privilege of being elected as a Councillor on Test Valley Borough Council, representing Andover.

I became a councillor to support the community I live in and where I am raising my family. I was determined to help deliver real, positive change for local people.

However, over my two years as a Conservative councillor, that change did not happen. Instead, I experienced repeated questioning, mocking, and discrimination from within the party. As a result, I made the decision last year to resign from the Tory party.
This election, I am proud to be backing Jason Sangster as your next County Councillor.

Jason is someone who genuinely cares about our community. He understands the challenges local people face and works tirelessly to address them. As County Councillor, he will focus on protecting local services, fixing our roads, and improving our environment.

Jason is a local person who has grown up here and is committed to getting things done for the area we all call home.

Soon, you will have the opportunity to vote in these important County Council elections. Realistically, this is a contest between Jason Sangster, a hardworking local candidate, and another Conservative candidate who has not delivered for our area. Other parties are unlikely to win here.

If you want to see a different direction for our community, I encourage you to support Jason Sangster."

Promoted by A. Clifton-Melhuish on behalf of Jason Sangster (Liberal Democrats), all at Unit 2 Crescent House, Yonge Close, Eastleigh SO50 9SX

Family friendly events, activities and live performances are coming to Basingstoke town centre today as Basingstoke Green Week returns this year.

Children are invited to come and marvel at Becky the Bin-tastic Magician as she turns rubbish into treasure and sing along with Junk Jodie Art and Storytelling as they learn about the Amazon rainforest, in two of several live shows taking place today on a stage outside M&S in Festival Place.

Out in The Malls Shopping Centre you can shop until you drop at a green market where you can buy organic and local produce, take home free water-saving items and pick up bee boxes, bug hotels and similar crafts hand made by volunteers.

And as you browse the many stalls, you can also talk to our Green Team to get free top tips for how you can save money, help your garden flourish, travel more sustainably and shrink your carbon footprint too.

There's loads to get involved with today and throughout the week until Sunday 15 June. See everything going on at https://www.sustainable-basingstoke.co.uk/green-week

🚨BREAKING: Government backs Lib Dem call to expand Free School Meals!

The Government has finally listened to calls to expand free school meals to all children on universal credit, a longstanding Liberal Democrat policy.

Our Munira Wilson has consistently put pressure on the Government on the issue including a recent amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which the Government voted down, to expand free school meals to all children in poverty.

Under the Conservatives, struggling families had to skip meals or sacrifice prescriptions to make sure their children had lunch to eat. Their lives will be transformed by this change.

This can only be a first step. To end the cost of learning crisis, the Government needs to commit to auto-enrolling eligible children for free school meals, lifting the two child benefit cap, and capping uniform costs to truly change the lives of children in poverty.

We’ll hold their feet to the fire to make sure today’s change is just a start.

“The Lib Dem leader wants to rewrite British politics – not with the language of crisis, but that of care.

“Personal experience shapes the Liberal Democrat leader’s agenda, offering a humane alternative and exposing a state oblivious to quiet sacrifice.”

Responding to Thames Water bosses’ appearance before the Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee today, the Liberal Democrats have said that the company is “putting profit before public good” and branded their executive bonuses “outrageous”.
