Ampthill Town Council Town Council for Ampthill in Bedfordshire Ampthill is situated in Mid Bedfordshire, with a population of approximately 7,000 and 3,150 households.

The Town Council (formerly Ampthill Urban District Council) has been a Successor Town Council since April 1974, pursuant to the Local Government Act 1972. The Council comprises 12 members and meets regularly at the Council Chambers. Opening Hours: 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and to 4.00pm on Friday. Closed for lunch from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Community Archaeology Dig – Ampthill Great Park; 6th – 18th June.
How you can get involved with Ampthill’s historical past.
The Dig will be taking place to the west of Katherine’s Cross.
Visitors can get involved in the Archaeology Dig in the following ways.

• Turn up at the dig site just before 4pm on any day excluding Friday 12th June and be guided by the archaeologist who will explain progress on site and items of interest. This will be a 15 – 20 minute session. There is no need to book in advance.
• On Saturday 13th June join the archaeologists for a tour of the dig site at 12.30pm until 1.15pm. Meet at the dig site, no need to pre book.
• On Sunday 14th June the Park will host Aragon Day Festival. Organised by Ampthill Cultural Events.
• Join Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon, Tudor Courtiers, Morris Dancers and invited dignitaries in the procession along the ridge footpath at 11.00am. Starting on the Greensand Ridge Footpath east of the Beacon processing to Katherine’s Cross.
• Aragon Day Festival will continue west of the cricket ground from 12.00 noon. Family entertainment, music, merriment, discovery and amusement.
• Join a guided tour of the dig site at 12:30pm - 1:15. No pre booking required. Meet at the Dig Ventures stall located with the other Aragon Day festivities.
• Dig for an hour; join the archaeologists on the dig site. Book a place on the day from 9.00am at the Dig Ventures stall in the main festival area. Sessions start at 10.00am and 2.00pm.
