When a loved one starts needing more support, many families feel they are facing a difficult choice.

For some, the conversation quickly turns to residential care. But what if there was a more flexible, person-centred approach?

Care doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing decision.

Many families find that starting with a few home care visits each week can provide the support they need whilst helping their loved one maintain their independence, routines, friendships and connection to the place they know best – home.

As needs change over time, support can gradually increase. This might mean additional visits, overnight care, respite support, or eventually live-in care if and when it becomes the right choice.

It's a gentler approach that allows care to evolve alongside a person's needs, rather than requiring a major life change before it's truly necessary.

At Ashridge, we believe families should always be in the driving seat. Care works best when it is built around the individual, with decisions made together and support introduced at a pace that feels right for everyone involved.

This , we're encouraging families to explore all of their options and to have conversations early. Planning ahead often creates more choice, less stress, and better outcomes for everyone.

πŸ“– If you're beginning to think about care for yourself or a loved one, our free guide, How to Choose the Right Live-In Care Provider, can help you understand the options available and what to look for when the time comes.

Carers Week is here!πŸ’™

This week is all about recognising and celebrating the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across the UK. Every day, millions of people provide care and support to a loved one, often balancing caring responsibilities alongside work, family life and their own wellbeing.

At Ashridge, we see first-hand the difference unpaid family carers make, and we're proud to support them every step of the way. Throughout , we'll be sharing helpful resources, practical advice and information designed to support carers and raise awareness of the challenges they can face. So keep an eye on our page and feel free to share these resources with anyone who may benefit.😊

One of the cruellest parts of dementia is watching someone you love slowly lose the memories that have shaped their life. The confusion, fear and uncertainty that can come with dementia affects not only the individual, but entire families.

That's why we're passionate about helping people with dementia maintain their independence, routines and quality of life at home.

Through our specialist dementia care teams, Dementia Friends Ambassadors and wider community network, we're committed to supporting families and raising awareness.
This June, we're proud to support the and help raise vital funds for the Alzheimer's Society! πŸ’™

As Brian & John themselves have shown, giving your time to support others can be one of life's most rewarding experiences.
Join us in wishing them a very happy 90th birthday and thanking them for their outstanding contribution to their community. πŸ‘

Veteran twin brothers Brian and John are marking their 90th birthday and an incredible milestone – raising over Β£90,000 as long‑standing Poppy Appeal collectors.

Both brothers served in the British Army from 1956-1958 as part of National Service, with postings to Germany and the West Indies.

"In some of our old photographs in the Army, I can’t tell us apart!”

When they finished National Service, legal support from the RBL helped them regain their previous positions with their employer on full pay.

β€œIt made a huge difference as otherwise we would have been unemployed.

β€œWe are so pleased and proud to have collected over Β£90K in just the last nine years, to help many service men and women.”

Both twins describe their 30 years of volunteering as incredibly rewarding.

β€œIf you are thinking of doing collecting, don’t hold back, it is so satisfying,” says John.

In a few weeks they’ll be celebrating their 90th birthday in style with all their friends and family.

Join us in wishing them a happy birthday πŸ₯³
