188 years ago today, Grace and William Darling set out from their home on Longstone Rock in the midst of a raging storm to rescue the survivors of the wrecked SS Forfarshire.

Visit us at the Grace Darling Museum to discover how their modest life on Longstone Lighthouse was changed as their feat of heroism catapulted them to fame, and how Grace's story continues to inspire todays lifesavers in the RNLI

Another successful rescue for RNLI - Amble Lifeboat Station
Well done to the crew and all involved!
RNLI

At 13:53 on the 31st July 2026 Humber Coastguard paged the Amble Lifeboat requesting the Inshore Lifeboat to go to the aid of a person trapped on the rocks by the rising tide.
Our inshore lifeboat, Alf and Dora, launched in good time and made best speed to the Hauxley Rocks approximately 1.5 miles south of the harbour, the crew found an angler stranded as the water closed in.
With good teamwork navigating the shallow water around the rocks, the casualty was safely brought aboard the lifeboat and transferred to dryland to meet waiting family, friends, and local Coastguard rescue teams. After a quick check, there were no injuries, and our crew was able to return safely to the station.

A quick safety reminder: The sea doesn't wait! Always check tide times and keep an eye on your escape route when out on the rocks.
