On 11 June 2026, I attended a delightful “Dine with the Mayor of Knutsford” evening held at a local eatery, Linden Stores. Knutsford is one of Cheshire’s most charming market towns, known for its historic streets, independent shops and strong community spirit.

The event supported the Mayor’s chosen charities—Knutsford Men’s Shed, which helps tackle social isolation and supports men’s mental health, and the PTAs of Knutsford’s four primary schools, which enrich children’s educational experiences through fundraising and community activities.

During the evening, I was able to speak with other mayors, discussing shared challenges and the ways they are addressing them. I hope to share some of these ideas with my colleagues on the Town Council.

Sunday 7th June – Fundraising at the Indoor Car Boot at The Civic

I was able to book a stall at this well-supported event hosted by the Alsager Civic, where many “car booters” had lined up to sell their goods. It was a successful day and a great opportunity to raise money for my charities. The morning started well, with a welcome cup of coffee and a bacon butty from the Civic café. There was a really positive atmosphere throughout the event, with a steady flow of visitors and plenty of interest in the stall. It was lovely to see so many people coming together, browsing, chatting, and getting a quick cuppa!

I would like to thank everyone who gave me some goodies to sell and thank my husband, Mike, who was a huge help throughout the day, not only assisting with the sales but also taking care of all the lifting and setting up! His support made a real difference

Saturday 6th June 2026 – Alsager Carnival 🎉

What a fantastic day. Despite earlier rain, the sun came out and crowds lined the streets for the carnival. There was plenty of entertainment, with stalls raising money for wonderful charities and community groups in Alsager.

One of my chosen charities, Alsager Girl Guiding, ran a fantastic tombola to support their much-needed new roof, and it was wonderful to see such strong community support for their efforts throughout the day. The stall was busy and clearly made a great contribution to their fundraising.

The Animals in Need dog show was also a real highlight of the event, with a strong focus on finding loving homes for rescued pets and raising awareness of the work they do. Pictured here is a lovely-natured and attractive dog called Nala, who is currently residing in the rescue kennels and looking for her forever home. It would be fantastic for her to be matched with a caring family very soon!

I was also pleased to speak with the Alsager Theatre Group, who will be performing “Much Ado About Nothing” in July, at their very popular summer venue at Little Moreton Hall. Tickets are still available.

Congleton Mayor Making Thursday 21st May 2026

I was proud to represent Alsager in my first civic duty as Mayor at the Mayor Making ceremony held at Congleton Town Hall on 21 May 2026. It was a truly stunning event.

Congratulations are extended to the newly installed Mayor of Congleton, Cllr Suzy Firkin, who took office at a colourful ceremony in the historic Town Hall, attended by invited guests and the Mayor of Alsager as part of the evening’s celebrations to mark the start of the new civic year.

AGA ALSAGER ALLOTMENTS OPEN DAY

Cllr Michael Unett, the Mayor of Alsager, attended this last weekend the Alsager Gardens Association Allotments Open Day at the Cedar Avenue Allotments.

This was a wonderful event highlighting the work of the AGA, allotment holders and what our town’s allotment sites offer.

The Mayor was delighted walking around the site and speaking to some allotment holders. The Mayor also helped to draw the raffle.

The Town Council owns the allotment sites but the day to day management is devolved to the Alsager Gardens Association.

STROKE SURVIVORS & THE KINGS AWARD

The Mayor of Alsager, Cllr Michael Unett, was delighted to join with fellow Mayors to attend the official presentation of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Group.

This prestigious award is the MBE for voluntary organisations and recognises the tremendous service that the Stroke Survivors Group does for people in Cheshire, with local groups in Alsager, Crewe, Sandbach, Middlewich, Nantwich and more.

The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire Lady Redmond presented the award to CEO Liz Bedson and her team and each volunteer got their own official commemorative pin badge.

The local Mayors of each town in area attended to support their local Stroke Survivors Group.

Cllr Michael Unett congratulated Stroke Survivors and paid tribute to their work, highlighting the dedication and service that the Alsager Group does for people in our town.

“A massive congratulations to Stroke Survivors for the Kings Award, it is throughly deserved for all the hard work of the organisers and volunteers. The positive impact they have on people is immense. And it is a joy to see how much good work and how far the group has come since it officially opened in 2022”.

Cllr Michael Unett was there at the official opening of the Stroke Survivors Group back in 2022 at the 13 Club when he previously served as the Chairman of Alsager Town Council.

Well done & congratulations to the Stroke Survivors Group, organisers, trustees and volunteers. 👏
