Flying high. cadets took to the sky's with some Air experience flying with 12AEF. For most, this was their first time piloting the Grob tutor, and is important step for gaining there wings.

PROMOTION AT 379 COUNTYOFROSS

Congratulations Corporal Shaw on your successful application.

Shaw has demonstrated the qualities and attributes needed for this leadership position within her time at She also successfully passed a initial application,  interview board and a Jnco knowledge and competency test.

This is the 1st step in taking more responsibility at not only our squadron but the wider rafac. Shaw will receive ongoing guidance and mentorship to help navigate the challenges and responsibilities that come along with being in the Jnco leadership team.

We all at 379 want to Congratulate you on this achievement and look forward to what you will achieve.

379 County of Ross & 2405 Dingwall held their joint enrollment and award ceremony.

Thoughout 2025/26, 379 & 2405 cadet have been working diligently towards many different aspects offered by the .

And tonight is a we celebrated thier achievement and excellence with a presentation and awards ceremony.

Hosted by the Sqn padre at the Alness baptis church the ceremony showed just what an amazing year the cadets had.
Who conducted the enrollment proceedings for 5 new recruits whom were officially welcomed in the the Raf Air Cadets.

With parents and family members in attendance, Alness Oc, WO Barbour took to the podium to read out all the cadets achievement.

Presenting the certificates and awards was our Sector 1 Commander Flight Lieutenant Neil Jack.

Awards were made to those who had committed themself to many areas of RAF Air Cadet training and commitment to self development.

The squadron OC, thanked all those present for giving generously the time and effort required to ensure the cadets of the squadrons could benefit from everything the RAF Air Cadets has to offer.

Our cadets have achieved some amazing things; this couldn’t have happened without the dedication of the squadron adult staff and the parents for continuing to encourage and support them which has been vital in helping to achieve what they have.

A total 30 awards where made on the night just showing how hardworking and dedicated the cadets have been to improvement and excellence.

We also had cadet a be promoted to Cpl, so congratulations Cpl Shaw, we will be making a separate post highlighting this achievement.

Following the formal awards ceremony refreshments & cake were served with the oppurtunity for parents to mingle with cadets, staff and each other as one big extended family.

cadets took part in advance radio lesson provided by C.I Fox, in which they learnt how to building their own crystal radio sets and the science behind it. They spent some time hand winding the coils, and wiring up the electronic components, then listened in to see what they could hear from the radios they built.

Crystal radios are 1920's tech, but don't need batteries or a power source and work anywhere.

They were widely used in the second world war by resistance fighters to listen in to broadcasts, often using farmers field wires as antennae!

These lessons really help development and vastly expand apon the syllabus that we teach. By getting the cadets hands on and problem solving.

Great time at Padre’s Hour this evening with as we marked Shrove Tuesday—learning about the meaning behind Pancake Day while making (and eating!) plenty of pancakes together.
Shrove Tuesday reminds us about reflection, fresh starts, and the value of sharing simple moments as a community. A brilliant turnout and great conversations all round.

379CountyofRoss final night of the year was a sector wide bowling event.

And With that, we would like to say a huge thank you to all cadets and staff for their excellent work throughout 2025.
Its been a fantastic year and we all look forward to see what 2026 will bring.

Have a very Merry Christmas and new year when it comes.

Aiming for success, have been doing some marksmanship training at 161 highland, building up there foundational technique and knowledge.
The air rifle platform is excellent for introducing the core principles before moving up to the larger L98A2 cadet GP.

In the down time cadets also took part in PTT ground school

Congratulations to Sgt Barbour on completing the CiC at Raf Cranwell.

Sgt Barbour said "he thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the course and has learned a lot from it and is looking forward to putting his new skills to use at "
