A little clarification about our support for Coalsnaughton β€οΈ
We have seen some comments suggesting that The Gate is using the current situation in Coalsnaughton as a way of attracting donations for our Foodbank, so we just wanted to clarify what we have actually been doing.
The Gate has been offering support to people affected since the situation began. In just the past two days alone, we have supported 10 people who have needed help.
We have also been coordinating the incredibly kind donations that members of the community have brought into The Gate and through our other donation points, particularly those donations that have been given specifically to support people in Coalsnaughton. These are being used to help those who need them.
We also set up an Amazon Wishlist in response to requests from Coalsnaughton residents themselves. They told us what items they needed, we added those requests to the Wishlist, and we have then helped coordinate the donations received so that they reached the people who had asked for them.
This isn't something new for The Gate. Supporting people in our local communities is something we have always done. We have simply responded to what people have needed during this particular situation, and we will continue to do so.
We would never want anyone to feel that we were using a difficult situation to benefit ourselves. Where people have donated specifically to support Coalsnaughton, our focus is on making sure that support gets to the people who need it.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has trusted us with donations, helped spread the word, offered practical support or simply shown kindness to those affected. There has been a huge amount of generosity from our community, and we are very grateful to be able to help coordinate some of that support.
