Well… that was a first! 😅
Our Deaf Hub on Sunday had no one attend. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
And you know what? We get it. ❤️
Two weeks into the school term, listening fatigue is REAL. Families are tired, children are tired, and sometimes Sunday is simply a day to stay home and recharge.
But it has also made us think…
👉 How do we reach more Deaf children and their families?
We know families are willing to travel — we have families travelling from up to 90 minutes away to access the right support, community and opportunities.
So, we’re going to keep shouting about what we’re creating. 📣
👦 A Deaf male role model at EVERY Deaf Hub
That’s right.
At CSSEF, we believe Deaf children should have the opportunity to see people like them being visible, confident, having fun and succeeding.
With only around 24% of teachers being male, and male representation even lower in Early Years and Primary education, we want to do something different.
Our Deaf Hubs will include a Deaf male role model — someone who can be a familiar, positive presence for Deaf boys and show them that being Deaf doesn't limit what they can do.
Someone to have fun with.
Someone to learn from.
Someone who understands.
Someone who can model confidence and emotional intelligence.
Someone who is simply there and visible.
And by creating these opportunities, our whole Deaf community gains. 💙
🚀🎵🎉 We've got some brilliant Deaf Hub sessions coming up, with themes including SPACE, MUSIC and CELEBRATIONS.
So please, please SHARE THIS POST with families of Deaf children across:
📍 Hampshire
📍 Berkshire
📍 Surrey
📍 South West London
📍All Deaf Unit and Deaf Schools in London
It doesn't matter whether a child is Deaf in one ear or both.
It doesn't matter whether they use spoken language, BSL, or a mixture of communication methods.
If they have a permanent Deafness, they are welcome at our Deaf Hub. 💙
🌟 DEAF HUB
📍 The Kiln, Badshot Lea
🕚 11am–2pm
It's a drop-in session, so you don't need to arrive at 11am and stay until 2pm. Message Charlotte Wish Granting Champion on 07542031103 to say you are coming so we can make sure we have enough lunch provided.
Come when you're ready.
Stay for as long as you want.
Meet other Deaf children and families.
Have fun.
Be yourself. 💙
And if you know a family who might benefit — tag them, share this post or send it directly to them.
Because sometimes the family who needs this most simply hasn't heard about us yet.
Let's come together as a community to connect, have fun and make sure no Deaf child feels alone. 💙
