If your waste collection is due on Friday in Addlestone, Ottershaw or Chertsey, residents are asked to take their bins out tonight as our collection crews will be starting from 5am tomorrow due to the ongoing warm weather. Thanks!

The hot weather is expected to continue in Surrey over the next few days.

The best thing to do in hot weather is stay out of the direct sun, especially during the hottest part of the day, between 11am and 3pm, as UV rays are strongest during these hours. Keep an eye on Met Office weather forecasts, and see Healthy Surrey for more hot weather tips: https://orlo.uk/z3Bsc

Meet Luke from Core Judo who will be leading our Family Boot Camp sessions on Thorpe Green this June and July as part of Fitness in the Park!

These fun, outdoor boot camp sessions are designed for parents to get active while the children are kept entertained with games and activities by a second instructor — making it the perfect family-friendly workout.

No babysitter? No problem. Bring the kids along, get moving, and enjoy some fun together outdoors this summer

We’re excited to share the final playground designs for Abbeyfields Chertsey, Edgell Close Virginia Water, Frank Muir Memorial Field Thorpe, and Murray House Ottershaw!

These projects are being funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which helps support local infrastructure and community improvements across the borough.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the engagement process — including our local schools, councillors, residents, parents, and especially the children who submitted hundreds of fantastic playground ideas and drawings. It’s been amazing to see so much creativity and community support for these projects.

A lot of hard work has gone into developing designs that are fun, inclusive, and suitable for a range of ages, and we’re really pleased to now be able to share them with you.

We look forward to keeping the community updated as the projects progress.

The first meeting of the West Surrey Shadow Council took place today (21 May) following recent elections - a key step towards the new West Surrey Council assuming operational responsibilities in April 2027.

Shadow councillors came together to start preparations for the new council, with Councillor Paul Follows appointed Leader and Councillor Shaun MacDonald as Deputy Leader.

The Shadow Council will work closely with councils across Surrey, partners and local communities to shape how the new West Surrey Council will operate, ensuring it reflects local priorities and continues to deliver high-quality services.

In the meantime, council services continue as normal. Residents should contact their existing county, district or borough council or councillors for enquiries about day‑to‑day services. Shadow councillors can answer resident queries on local government reorganisation and the transition to the new authority in April 2027.

This follows the first meeting of the new East Surrey Shadow Council yesterday.
