Wear Green, Grow Green Day 🌷🌱🌳🪴

On Friday, children and staff came to school dressed in green in exchange for a donation of a plant. We all spent some time planting them into the grounds around school to brighten up our environment. Everyone helped, from some of our youngest to our oldest children. Special mention to those from Year 6 who stayed outside to do some extra digging! It was wonderful to see everyone working together, seeing our Catholic Social Teaching value of ‘solidarity’ in action. Thank you to parents and carers for your donation - they have truly made a difference. As you can see from Mrs Halliwell, we all needed a good scrub afterwards!

Some highlights of our trip last week.
I just wanted to take the opportunity to share with you how beautifully behaved the children were. I am incredibly proud of how well they represented our school. They all had so much fun, learning lots and becoming qualified ‘grossologists’.

Year 1 had great fun on Monday for Wimbledon Day. We played tennis, made mash cams pretending to be tennis players on the iPad, watched a tennis match on a digivan and even enjoyed strawberries and ice cream.

Wimbledon day! 🎾

Year 3 were making pizza for their DT topic whilst watching last year’s men’s winner, Sinner, play his match today. Sinner is from Italy so we all got behind him! And earlier in the morning, some of us had the opportunity to play some tennis based games outside.

Whilst trying to stay cool this morning, Year 3 began making a wonderful variety of paper fans. We decided to test which style of fan is the most effective at keeping us cool. Children discussed a range of hypotheses while we worked. We chose a constant variable - Miss Parry would test all the fans. She gave each fan a score out of 10. We found the most and least effective and drew conclusions on the reasons why.

Reception are exploring the theme wonders of the sea this half term so we turned our outdoor classroom into the beach! We got our sunglasses, swimming costumes, hula skirts and sun hats ready to enjoy the beach⛱️🏖️

The children needed to pack a suitcase to it’s maximum capacity with all their clothes to make sure everyone had an outfit ready for the beach.🤿

Reception have been learning all about measure in maths! We’ve been looking at capacity, volume, weight and length.

We made our own potions by mixing liquids and solids and then pouring the potion into our potion pots to fill them to their maximum capacity and then we looked at the volume of potion remaining in the pot.

We measured the length traveled by the cars by building our own ramps! We know the car travels further when the ramp is higher.
