Vale of Rheidol Railway

Vale of Rheidol Railway Scenic Steam Train Journey from the coast at Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge in the Cambrian Mountains

From the comfort of your carriage watch the scenery passing by. See the countryside change as you travel through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery, the line twisting and turning as it clings to the hillside. Listen to the sound of a historic narrow gauge steam locomotive working hard to climb the 700ft (200m) in the 11 ¾ miles from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey

such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seen soaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can be enjoyed by all.

An almost unrecognisable Capel Bangor Station during the early 1990s. The original station building was demolished in 1986, but was soon replaced with this little stone-built shelter. The shelter was in turn removed when the passing loop was reinstated in 2001. The site could not look more different today, with its new station building, yard and sheds.

Gorsaf Capel Bangor, bron yn amhosib i'w hadnabod, yn y 1990au cynnar. Cafodd yr adeilad gwreiddiol ei ddymchwel ym 1986, a'r caban carreg bychan ei godi yn fuan wedyn. Cafodd y caban ei ddymchwel yn 2001 pan ailosodwyd y lwp basio. Ni allith y safle edrych yn fwy wahanol heddiw, gyda'i adeilad gorsaf newydd, iard a siediau.

It's Volunteers Week!

Here at the Vale of Rheidol Railway we have a small group of dedicated team of volunteer gardeners.

They are a little camera shy, but behind the scenes they work hard throughout the seasons to keep our stations, platforms and halts blooming.

Thank You🌷💚

🚂 Now on public display for the very first time 🚂

We are pleased to reveal that announce that Borsig engine 0-6-2T 'Sotillos' no. 7 is now on display in the Engine Shed Museum.

Originally built to work the San Miguel copper mines of Southern Spain, this engine was later purchased by our late chairman Peter Rampton in 1969, following the closure of the mine. It is the largest, heaviest and most expensive locomotive acquired from Sabero.

This is the first time this remarkable locomotive has ever been exhibited for the public to see, offering visitors a rare opportunity to get up close to a truly unique piece of railway history.

Be sure to visit the museum and see Sotillis for yourself on your next trip to the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Don't forget entry to the museum is FREE to all visitors!
