Friends of Bailey Park

Friends of Bailey Park We are a voluntary group which maintains and cares for the gardens in Bailey Park, for the community of Abergavenny and surrounding district.

We have created beautiful flower beds which have contributed to a lovely, tranquil setting for all to enjoy.

This morning we had a lovely group of Year 1 children from Our Lady & St Michael's Catholic Primary School. They came down to hunt out some bees, caterpillars, butterflies etc and certainly found loads in our rockery bed! They then helped us do a little bit of weeding which was very helpful. Thanks to the teachers and the helpers for managing the group and we hope they all found it interesting. We certainly enjoyed having the children and they were a real credit to the school. They can come back anytime. Photos to follow later.

We needed to replace the plaque under the cherry tree that had fallen to pieces. We were given the log slice by one of our team and I popped into the craft market on Sunday to see if I could get it engraved. This wonderful couple, who are the owners of Geolaser, came to the rescue and produced this for us. What's more and without being asked, they donated it to us with no charge. Heartfelt thanks to them both and we'd 100% recommend their service (https://geolaser.co.uk/shortcuts-%3A-1)

On Monday morning we welcomed a team of volunteers from Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) to the gardens. They were all brilliant and helped us out with a huge amount of planting, weeding and the thinning out of an invasive plant we call The Thug! We enjoyed their company and hope they want to come back at some point.
We are always ready to welcome groups of volunteers on our gardening days. ☺️🌳🌹🪻🌻🥀

Yesterday was a busy day. We welcomed a group from Abergavenny U3A in the afternoon followed by evening session for our regular volunteers. We were planting perennials, weeding and generally tidying the borders in the sunburst gardens.
It is a bit of an in-between time of year as the spring bulbs are over and the summer flowers are just coming out.

EVENING GARDENING SESSION
We're pleased to say that we are running our evening session today as the weather isn't looking too bad. If you'd like to come and join us please come to the sunken garden 5.30pm onwards and we finish at 7.30pm.
These evening sessions were set up for people who'd like to volunteer with us but are unable to join us for our usual morning sessions. 🌳💐🌹🥀🪻🌻

We have reluctantly decided to cancel the Tuesday evening gardening session this evening (26th May) because it is just too hot.
We should be back 5:30 Tuesday 2nd June.

The Friends of Bailey Park Volunteers would like to extend a warm welcome to all those who've rolled into the park ready for two days of the Steam Rally. The team hopes you enjoy strolling round the gardens, enjoying the flowers and the peaceful surroundings. ⚘️🪻🌺🌻🌳🌷🌸

Together, we can create a greener, healthier world—full of blooming gardens, fresh food, and buzzing life—for future generations.
